Unfired sculpture takes a tour of Downtown Raleigh

    I finally decided to release myself from my sculpture. It's hard to do when there are so many small details you want to make perfect and the more you try to make it perfect, the more flaws you see in it and the more work there is to do on it...so this is a common plight for sculptors.

    I released myself from my burden and the next trial was to get the sculpture into the studio to be fired in a larger kiln because it won't fit in mine. The day I scheduled to meet with someone at the studio and drop off my sculpture, that person got into a car accident. (he's fine, but his car is now in the shop and it was a lovely hit and run).

    I had to leave for vacation the next day and was out of town for a bit.

    Then the next time I went to drop off the sculpture I swear the street I was supposed to turn on had disappeared. I wound up driving all around downtown Raleigh knowing I was only blocks away from teh studio but unable to get to it...so I drove back home.

    I called the studio already knowing noone would believe my story. I explained that I hadn't showed up -not because I'm irresponsible or because I forgot, but because...because someone moved the street.

    and it turns out they did. The city is doing some construction and removed all signs that a street once existed there. It's now a wall.

    So the third time I went to drop off the sculpture...well, it was very uneventful and mostly pleasant. <3

  2. Good, I hate that when streets move. ;) I hope it turns out well.

  3. So many times, I've been walking down a street and said to my wife;

    "Look honey, someone stole their steps."

    You guys are so sweet! I feel like this piece has really been a trial for me. It is so harrowing to drive in traffic with one hand on the wheel and one hand on a raw clay sculpture you put so many hours into hoping you don't have to slam on the breaks or anything. I aged 3 years doing this! :p~

  6. Kind of like driving with the kids in the car. :)

  7. except you dont have to yell at them! :)

  8. LOL, why in the hell would you decide to close off a street?
