These are the choices I gave my daughter. She said she'd have to think about it. She's 12. I hear they are sweeter when they hit 15. :|

Heh, tonight was the first night Kendra didn't give me a kiss before I left for work, so I feel your pain.

No, kendra is 1. you will not feel my pain for eleven years. I have, however, felt yoru pain and more. My son, 9 years old, told me a couple of days after Valentines day "I love you, Mom, and love hurts." Then, he bit my arm. Now, I don't know what was more painful...the bite or knowing some little harlet on the playground bit my son a few days earlier!!!

Black and I were sitting down watching some program on Discovery or something a few years ago... The show was about teenagers and such... We both heard some so-called  expert say that teenagers are not responsible for the trouble they get into because of the hormonal changes going on shuts off all deductive reasoning to the brain!!! And add to that it doesn't really come back until 19 or 20!!!! He never ceases to remind of that show since then!!! :manirw:

Only a year or two to go then that excuse is moot!

  13. The pain of having kids? Id rather go through it than not tbh. Raising a kid correctly in this extremly messed up world is something I have promised my self for a long time.

Then consider raising an army of malcontents instead... :D

I always find it amazing how many people put way too much thought into the smallest details, never into doing their best to steer their kids in the right direction.

  15. To further explain Asp, I had a... rough? childhood. I quickly became emotionaly detached from my family, especialy my father whom never considered me a son untill I was 18, and by that time I was living alone in NYC. Both of my parents are raging alcoholics and I unfortunatly picked up that habbit for a few years, thank god I had the strength to stop (Sept for the weekends :D) and my mother cant stay away from weed. It was a long hard road from me, and its not something I want my children to experience. I long ago swore to be the best damn parent I could possibly be.

.. and a lot of people in that kind of situation would pass a similar pain along to their children; so its commendable that you're looking to breaking any cycle like that before it begins :)

Regardless of background, its amazing to me how many parents don't take a serious interest in their kids (one that doesn't come from some "how to" book) development. It's always seemed to me that the more practical you are about it, the more likely you are to succeed in getting through to your kids.

It's always nice to see people taking the responsibility seriously :)

I've been thinking about this one a lot lately. Mrs. symen wants to have children someday, and we're getting close to the age where we're going to have to do it, or we won't be able to. I never gave a lot of thought to reproducing, but I find I don't really have a strong desire to do so. I'm a bit intimidated by children to begin with, and I remember all the gray hairs I gave my mother, so I'm honestly not sure I want to go through that (though I probably sorely deserve it :p). I don't think I'd be a good parent, either -- it's a lot of responsibility, and I'm not sure I'm the man for the job.

My suggestion of skipping all the painful stuff and adopting a 26-year-old with his own apartment wasn't particularly well-received, though. :p

LOL!! Kids are very much worth it, btw. It's just fun for parents to get together and compare notes sometimes.

I remember when we brought our daughter home from the hospital, my husband was with her in the other room and he kept shouting, "Oh, my God, Oh, my God, Oh, my God!!!" and I grabbed the cordless phone and ran into the room ready to call 911, thinking she'd stopped breathing or something. I found him in there changing her diaper. She'd had a bit of an explosion all over the wall beside the changing table so, we sold the house and moved to North Carolina. (At least that's the story we give her)

  19. i have two words for raising kids...military school...

i threaten my neices and nephew with that...i tell them that im thier guardian if anything happens to their parents...and thats where they are going when i get them....

i think the oldest however doesn't take me seriously anymore...last time she told me i was full of shit...perhaps they have taken on too many of my charming qualities...

...so sayeth the woman who would run a dryer for 20 minutes containing only a single favorite sock for a melancholy nephew merely to get a smile out of him.
