  1. okay...so im going to try to not babble here..but alas..it is one of my best qualities and no sense in not giving you all of me...

a particular person I know is looking at getting a web site going...now what i don't know is how or where to even begin looking...someone told them they could get one going for like over 5k a year...now its not going to be some fancy shmancy thing...at least not in the beginning...this particular person is well established in the theatre and entertainment industry and is very well connected and respected...however her closest connection to the technical world is me and thats not a very good connection to say the least...however i told her i would try to help her out as much as i could...

anywho...she wants it low-key...informative...user friendly and her friendly...she can barely turn on her laptop without a crisis...she doesn't want to go thru some company for admin or support people...she doesn't trust them...other than the people who she will be buying/renting the domain or space from...basically something like what you all have here with a few of the "locals" running the joint...

what i/she am looking for are a few...locals..or perhaps one local...for her website...this would be a paying gig too...not just a one time thing...that can be discussed at a later time...since i trust most of you here and you do good work and could be financial help to some...im tossing it out to see if anyone is interested...

again..this is not going to be some trash entertainment website...she has worked in the industry for years and is looking for something that would reflect the style and class that represents her and her work...

how did i meet her? long story...not sordid...but long...

so if anyone is interested toss me a pm and maybe we can talk more in depth about this....

    edit* and this blue...is....blue....

Get in touch with Telthinar. I know he was itching to put together a nice website for a while. He might be able to help you more.

  7. Test,

The one thing that isn't clear from your post is what the purpose of the site is and what the goal are. That plays a big part in what I would recommend a person does. If she's just looking for a nice looking home on the web to write a blog and post some pictures, well that can be done very inexpensively.

However, all too often people try to do their business web sites for cheap. You really do get what you pay for usually. And if this is going to be the driving focus for a company or money making venture, it really does usually pay to find someone that knows what they are doing.

Hosting can be really cheap, but there again, trying to run a business on a $10/month hosting plan doesn't always make good financial sense.

Honestly, $5k for a professionally developed website is pretty reasonable. Now 5K/year they are just shafting you hosting fees most likely.

It sounds like it will be an on going project, so finding someone local that you can work with is a great idea. Check references.

It's hard to find people who are great at both the technical and design side of the web. I should know, I'm only good at the latter. So finding a kid out of high school or collage might or might not work for you. You're probably better off with a small business, there are ones that do really quality work, finding them is usually the hard part.

I'm really rambling but again it's hard to really recommend a direction without knowing the purpose and vision for the site. Sorry to be so vague.

The only people I know in that line of work are local to me, not to you :)
