    I always like reading your posts Chuk, and support your point of views on weapons as well.

    As a former Marine, I know the difference and the right and wrong ways of firearms and see gun control as a serious offense to law abiding citizens.

    Im posting a link to something that happened in my home town and it hit close to home as well, its about a pizza delivery driver and I knew him (used to work with him, he went to another pizza joint when we worked together delivering for Pizza Hut)

    Perfect example of why carrying a concealed weapon can save your life if your a law abiding citizen.

  2. Unfortunately that is what this country has turned into... Everyone feels the need to be "A Parent" or do (what they believe) is the "Right Thing". It's a shame when things like this happen, because scapegoats come into play.. and it turns into a witch hunt, and it at times seems the "Politics" of it mean more than those whose lives were taken.

    The fact that he bought the gun, or was able to get a hold of a gun has nothing to do with the act of violence he commit, either way.. one way or another. If someone wants to do something like this, they'll figure out a way, there's no stopping it... It is inevitable, and this will more-than likely happen again someday in the future (As much as I'd like to not believe that, I'm just being honest). Gun control is the first scapegoat that gets brought up, then it is the "Violent" Television programs, the "Violent" Movies, the "Violent" Video games, and so on so forth.

    I'm not really an advocate for any sort of "Gun" control, I just honestly believe that people should be able to conceal weapons due to their constitutional right, and that is a right that they are given by just that.. The Constitution.

    Excellent post Oakfist.

    Problem I see here, the pizza guys job. Most of these pizza joints do not allow their employees the option to defend themselves.

    If he still has his job, and the Dominoes in that area said he did good, let me know. I will get some people to write this Dominoes thanking them for allowing their employees their right to self-defense on the job.

    Just let me know, if you know, the Dominoes and the manager and the address where they can be contacted. The manager needs to be thanked for allowing their employees this. And the employee needs to know that there are many others who are glad he is alive.

    You are right Zaox.

    Murder was already illegal.

    Bringing a gun or guns onto V Tech was illegal.

    What magical law would have prevented this, or any killing?

    Criminals are by definition those who don't follow the law. So, by definition, no law will stop a criminal in their endeavor.

    Until those in power see this, only the law-abiding will be made defenseless by "for the children" and "the safety of all" laws.

    The law-abiding pay as the criminal collects. Plain and simple.

    I will not pay.

    I will try to find out, I can get all the info since this is a small town. And Ive already got a birdie out trying to see what came of the man who defended himself. Hopefully everything will be alright job wise, but it was a part time deal and I know for a fact the pizza joints around here are hurting for delivery drivers (sometimes with sign on bonuses reaching 500$), so if something comes of it he can find a job somewhere else.

    I know when I delivered it was a big no-no to carry any sort of protection, so I would assume the same for him. We couldnt even carry a pocket knife (although I did wherever I went).

    On to the gun control issue.

    MY Main concern with all of the idiots screaming for insane gun control issues is they are so narrow minded they think it will be harder for criminals to get ahold of a weapon. My only response in regards to that is: look at drugs. They are illegal and yet millions of people get them everyday for their "fix" whats going to stop a criminal from getting hold of a handgun, absolutely nothing. Its just going to stop the average citizen from protecting themselves.

    Arg, I hate getting into this stuff, just makes me more mad.:rawr:

    To quote a great man " They can pry my gun away from my cold dead hands"

  7. Got to hand it to you folks. Your certainly a lot more pro-active politically then the folks I live with here in Winnipeg. Myself included.
    I still think that handguns and/or concealed weapons shouldn't be available to the general public. At least when some nutbar is strolling down the street with a shotgun, you know he's up to no good. Plus it's only 2 shots before reload. In most cases :)
    Guns are everywhere down there. I'd also like to say that you'd be a fool not to own one. I just wish more people were properly trained to use them.

  8. its not necessarily the proper training...its the proper mindset...with or without gun laws...the crazies will be the ones who will be doing the random acts of violence or be responsible for the freak out shoot 'em up incidents...

  9. This is the kind of arogence that the politicians feed on. You can go to walmart, show a over 21 ID and pick up a Remington 870 Express shotgun. 1 chambered, 5 in the tube. Most shotguns are pump / semi auto now. People with little experience with firearms tend to be the people who shoot them down the fastest.

    Let me ask you a hypothetical question. Lets first say firearms are Illegal. If you were walking down the street at night, and a nutbar walks up to you and pulls a snub .38 (an easily concealed weapon). Now what? What if hes not looking for money and wants to kill you. In all likly circumstances you die or are injured. Whats your defence against this person? None, "Guns are illegal though, how did he get it!?" people will say. Uh... blackmarket? Smoking weed isnt illegal but people get it all the time. What diffrence will it make on guns?

    The bad guys will still have them and more good guys wont. Your problem got worse. The issue has nothing to do with wether or not people are properly trained. Its all got to do with who can get their hands on them.... EVERYONE. All your doing with making laws is hurting the upstanding citizen who wishes to protect them self.

    On top of that your nutbar walking down the street PROBABLY wont be carrying a shotgun in plain view. Why not get an illegal hand gun if your going to go illegaly rob a store.

    Here is the real test:

    Let's say magically we could make all guns everywhere disappear. Would humans quit killing other humans? Nope. They would use a hammer, a car, or whatever is available.

    It isn't about the item used, it is about the user of the item.

  11. Wonderfully stated, too bad a lot of people tend to believe they can solve all the world's problems with laws.

    Here is the meat of the McCarthy bill, HR 1022 for "assault weapons".

    I have highlighted the most important part.

    SEC. 3. DEFINITIONS.

    (a) In General- Section 921(a)(30) of title 18, United States Code, as added by section 2(a) of this Act, is amended to read as follows:

    `(v) Uzi.

    `(C) The following shotguns or copies or duplicates thereof:

    `(i) Armscor 30 BG;

    `(ii) SPAS 12 or LAW 12;

    `(iii) Striker 12; or

    `(iv) Streetsweeper.

    `(D) A semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine, and that has--

    `(i) a folding or telescoping stock;

    `(ii) a threaded barrel;

    `(iii) a pistol grip;

    `(iv) a forward grip; or

    `(v) a barrel shroud.

    `(E)(i) Except as provided in clause (ii), a semiautomatic rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

    `(ii) Clause (i) shall not apply to an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.

    `(F) A semiautomatic pistol that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine, and has--

    `(i) a second pistol grip;

    `(ii) a threaded barrel;

    `(G) A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

    `(H) A semiautomatic shotgun that has--

    `(i) a folding or telescoping stock;

    `(ii) a pistol grip;

    `(iv) a fixed magazine capacity of more than 5 rounds.

    `(I) A shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

    `(J) A frame or receiver that is identical to, or based substantially on the frame or receiver of, a firearm described in any of subparagraphs (A) through (I) or (L).

    `(K) A conversion kit.

    `(L) A semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General. In making the determination, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any Federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.'.

    So, the AG has complete control over any firearm he/she seems to be an "assault weapon". Since all guns can be used to "assault" someone, then just ban them ALL. With this bill, the AG has that right.

    This is gun confiscation in it's early stages, and it's sneaky stage. Slip it in, then use that section to unarm everyone.

    What most of this bill is about is what a gun LOOKS like, not it's functionality. MOST hunting rifles are more powerful than what our military carry.

  18. "The following rifles or copies or duplicates thereof:..."

    is used thruout that document...they make the wording vague enough for people to "think" they know what it means...that way an "informed" voter will lobby to support it...or more unfortunate...a rich one...anywho...it doesn't seem like a viable option for regulation...because how many lawmakers or voters for that really know what each and everyone of those guns are and how they are used...any fool can see that this bill is not a good idea...well...but we are talking about our govt...anywho...

    now personally..i dont' see any real need for joe shmo to own an AK47...i mean..yeah..they may be fun to shoot and all...but in a civilized society there is not any real need...only desire...i mean..its not really a hunting weapon and there are far better weapons for home or self protection...seriously tho..whats its purpose than just a big stroke off for someones ego? nothing personal to you guys that own heavy firepower...and altho i do enjoy target practice...and have frequented many indoor and out door shooting ranges...mens reactions are far different than a womans in my personal experience...

    this is another hot topic with our country...hate to revive this dead horse but its much like abortion...we say with the weapon regulation that each step is a step closer to a prohibition on personal ownership...this i find funny because many pro-choicers feel that the last abortion bill that was passed is one step closer to outlawing it..because its just the beginning..yet they don't accept that as an argument when regulation weapons...each side starts its argument with "its only the beginning"..not trying to derail in direction that has nothing but bad baaaaad consequences...but i just notice the similiarities in the arguments...and yes...they are two differnt things you will say...of course they are...otherwise we can just make a blanket law that covers both of them...

    ive become so middle of the road about things lately...that i feel like i have to question everything...because eventually if you ask enough questions...yer gonna find the answer...i just dont' think i can fully give my support one way or the other because i don't know where i stand myself...too many....variables....and you cant write variables into law...therin lies the dilema...

    whew...sorry 'bout that....

    Most hunting rifles are more powerful than a semi-automatic AK-47. Only when a rifle is fully-automatic would they be considered more powerful.

    As for abortion....I feel males should stay out of the debate and making of any laws pertaining to it.
