Trick or Treat Night...

Much better night this year. Quite a few keeping the tradition alive!!

Something I noticed that I think is a really good idea..A couple of parents taking a group of kids.

Several kids from different families going around under the supervision of a couple parents. That is great!

Think about that for next year. Get to know your neighbors. Then, when things like this come up, you can decide who gets to take them around, and who has to stay behind.

One couple had about ten kids. May have been two families, but perhaps five. But an excellent idea.

One thing that made my night even better. One Trick or Treater saying to his Mom.."They give out the big candy...Mom...the Big Candy..Look!!"

Isn't that what it's all about?

    Happy Halloween!

    Mine has been!

Tomorrow night would be Church Night for most people. Can't have anything like that on Church Night!! That would be WRONG.

Don't blame me, the cities decide which night is Trick or Treat Night. And they are generaly NEVER on Sunday or Wednesday night. That would be wrong for some reason.

Well, we KNOW why....not like any of those prudes participate anyway. They just have to have it that way.

You can have it on any night you like. This is still America. But just because some who believe differently than you make the choice not to participate doesn't make them wrong.

You enjoy the night because you believe there is nothing wrong with it. I disregard the night because I believe there is something wrong with it. We both live in peace as long as you respect my belief system and I respect yours.

  5. My family and I don't participate in the festivities of Halloween either

    Thats fine with me.

Let's do this. No days off of work for christmas.

That way there is NO distinction of religion.

You can take that up with Congress. I am not about legislating morality (or immorality), I am about reforming the individual.

  8. No, he just has to respect the fact that you are allowed to believe differently... not necessarily respect what you believe. Christmas doesn't have any less of 'pagan' roots than Halloween does. Past that, people are really against letting kids dress up and go out to have fun?

"If it works for me, then I'm certainly not going to complain". That's nice.

Reforming the individual? Into what...the herd that doesn't concern itself about anyone else but what works for them? That's nice also.

Do you REALLY respect my belief system?

  10. Cyrus, I believe that is exactly what Mani is saying.

Now Chuk you know Mani respects your right to believe what you want to believe but he doesn't believe in what you believe in.

The thing that bothers me is the fact that anytime we talk about God or Christ or why we believe what we believe all we here from you guys is how stupid and mindless you think we are and how wrong we are. I promise you this, you will never hear me or Mani tell you how stupid you are for believing what you believe. Yet anytime we as Christians bring up God in any way it all of a sudden becomes "Bash the Christians".

I am not saying that Christians are perfect in any way. We have some fanatics that do some really stupid things and claim them in the name of God. But those people are few in comparison to the number of honest, loving and caring Christians who care enough about others to share with them what they believe to be Truth. It is done out of love and compassion for others. But like everything else in this world people judge an entire group by a few bad apples.

Well I need to get some sleep or else I will be sleep walking at work. You all have a great day :)

Trick or Treat, for us, is tonight. My mom and aunt are flying in for the wedding this coming weekend and they'll be in town to see Kendra in her Sleeping Beauty costume. As far as my beliefs are concerned, they aren't here for public consumption/ridicule. I respect your religion as long as you respect mine. And we can get along juuuuust fine.

  13. here is what i have been able to put together thru a halloween special here and there and a little research...again..here and there...a hodgepodge of info if you will...

back in the day...when the christians discovered...for lack of a better word...druidic religions...they actually semi-embraced it...only because however, the old religion(s) are what the masses believed in...however...as catholosism(sp) began to spread and the membership or belief in the one god became more acceptable...they began to put an "evil" twist on it...it began as a holiday to represent the changing of the seasons or bounty of new harvest or rejoicing in nature...something like that...but there was no room in the early members of christianity for them to accept even the worship of nature...even tho there was no "entity" involved...when it became "evil" in the minds of the ruling religious class...the uninformed or religious "haters" embraced the idea that christianty has given them a "holiday" and helped in the idea that halloween is indeed a day of spirits and evil ghosty things...

so...what halloween is today..has become a product of...keep in mind...old and archaic ideas of religious expansion...

but...it is still pretty fun you can't deny that...

    BOO! happy halloween

I respect people who have made the choice to not celebrate halloween.

Funny thing happened here the other day. My son's friend was over and my son asked if he would like to go trick or treating with him because my son has a group of friends going together. Now I already knew he doesn't celebrate halloween so it was no suprise when he said no, but the thing that disturbed me is he said "People who celebrate halloween worship evil and demons on that night." and at that point I had to step in. I said, "We do not worship evil and demons, but if you feel you would not be able to control yourself and you might end up worshiping evil and demons, then I admire you for choosing not to celebrate Halloween."

I'm all for people choosing a path that is meaningful and representative of their beliefs and values, but I have a problem when someone tells me how I feel, what I believe and taints a holiday I celebrated in church as a child.

You guys have chosen to make a statement by abstaining. No problem. Don't pile a bunch of devil worshiping crap onto the people who choose to enjoy the time with family and friends. This is the most easy going excuse to laugh and enjoy other people and do crafts with family and friends, tell scary stories...didn't ya ever tell scary stories while camping? This is the no pressure holiday...until now.

  15. It's no secret about what I believe and I have never tried to hide that but I hope I have never come across in a way as to bash people or telling them what they believe or how they feel. I know I may get a bit passionate sometimes about things, as do all people, but I try not to come across as bashing or attacking anyone. If I have come across that way I do apologize, wasn't my intention.

sweety, I didn't mean to imply it was you or mani or anyone else on this board who is behaving in this way. You guys are really wonderful in the way you share your beliefs without judging. That's tough to do.

I was just sharing my experience. Most people who choose not to celebrate are pretty respectful and I can tell they are sacrificing some fun and sacrificing being included in the group to contemplate their values and actions and I admire that.

This is really tough on children, I think, because many teachers and community members who they are taught to respect and listen to celebrate halloween and it leaves them torn up inside. Also, it is a potential cause of arguments and rifts between them and their classmates.

If you want to start wars, teach your children they are better than everyone else. If you want to start peace, teach them to respect each other and each other's beliefs.

  17. Very well spoken Sky. I try my best to teach my kids what's right and wrong with the short time I get to spend with them every other weekend and all. I always tell them to be respectful to people whether they believe the same things you do or not.

As for it being tough on children to not have fun and participate, at my church we have a fall festival on the same night to give parents an alternative to halloween trick or treating. We setup game booths and grill hotdogs and/or hamburgers and stuff. No kid leaves there without a huge sack of candy and parents feel comfortable knowing that their kids are safe and they have a ball. The kids still get to dress up but they just don't dress up as goblins, ghosts and ghouls and stuff. Some come as Spiderman or Superman or a Bible character or soldier. Some don't dress up at all. It's just a good night of fun and fellowship for all.

  18. growing up i didn't realize any relation to halloween being a night of...whatever it is that the devout folks think is wrong with it...and to this day i don't understand the reason for not celebrating...or whatever it is this fun night...

what faith described is basically what the old religions did...fun...family...games...a night for reflection (i.e prayer) for the good things in their lives and the soon to be things...

so im asking the folks here...what is it that makes halloween...not an acceptable...thing...or why do many christians not participate? im not asking to make a point...or whatever...but i honestly don't know...all i have are my "ideas" why they don't...and they seem like really stupid and narrowminded ideas...i want to be proven wrong...or maybe right...but i can't really say one way or the other untill i guess...i understand what the big whoop-de-do is...

and please...im asking the christians here...not people who assume or think they know...
