What it boils down to for the developers is making 3D action available online through web browsers. Best of all, it's FREE!!

It's not up and running yet Ivan.

Tribes wouldn't be Tribes without all the close friends I played with over the years. Much <3 to ya Ivan.

I got into the beta for this web browser thing..... but nothing seems to work very well. (might be because I am trying to play on a computer at work) :( Don't see how a decent tribes experience can be packaged into glorified flash games, but I'm hoping it turns out well.

Well essentially its the torque engine thats running it, theres some flash that makes the outside UI work but the game itself looks pretty much like a standard game, except installed and controlled by the browser. Which means that you prob need a good comp to run most of it, runs like crap here at work too I havent tried it at home yet. :D

From the video it looks to me like a normal game.. hope it works out too.

  11. Thanks for the updated news links. I'm still looking forward to seeing how this game plays in a web browser. From the footage it looked just like Tribes to me.

It's going to be interesting to see how people that have never played Tribes react to the added movements. That's really one of the biggest reasons why I don't play FPS games anymore is being stuck on the ground like a bug. I've played my share of Quake, Half-Life (and assorted mods) so that when Tribes came along with no single player mode just a tutorial, it was pretty strange, right at first.

After playing in some servers online, then eventually figuring out the "mods" and settling on the Insomniax mod, there really is no going back to an FPS game. I've tried SOF(2), the battlefield(s) etc... sure, vehicles get you off the ground, but it's just not the same as using a jet pack, disc or mortar launching to get a head of steam for the pure pleasure of "skiing".

Ghost Recon still holds a special place in my heart because my brothers and I LANed that game for many moons. There's always an exception :D

I think I'll load Tribes on my linux box just to see if this old sony PC can handle it.

I feel the same way. Tribes holds a place in my gaming heart that nothing but maybe Planetside has come close to replacing. I think we need a have a Tribes Reunion. Everyone install, (if not still installed) it back up and join a server for some jet pack, disking, damn good fun.
