Well, vBulletin uses a MySQL database underneath, which doesn't enforce an upper limit on the number of rows per table. It'll get slightly slower as it fills up, but that's about it -- MySQL is actually really good at retrieving data quickly, and very well suited to the purpose of backending a medium-traffic web app like this one, its weakness is concurrency.

I suppose we could fill up the disk. Assuming a couple KB per post, and that Hamma has 500 GB available, we'll need to get around 250 million more posts in here. We have a little over 3,000 posts in eight years so far, so that's a good start. That calculates to roughly 400 posts a year, so at the current rate, we'll fill up the disk in 625,000 years or so. Assuming Hamma or his descendents don't upgrade the hard disk in the intervening time, I think we can do it.
