I was yelling in triumph at the end of that map. Reminded me of our Tribes 1 win over Raging Angels.

After a bit of experimentation, I'm really starting to get a feel for the grenadiers..
Upgraded properly 2-3 squads can almost alpha strike a sherman tank. (dual panzershreks), by giving them a mg42 and panzershrek you have a squad that can threaten any unit, and ultimately is extremely flexible.
For keeping your lines moving forward, grenadiers with dual mg42s don't have the setup/breakdown time associated with the actual mg42 squad. They can break and run easily and get setup quicker. That and it's much harder for a squad to cheat by running around your machine gun squad while it sets up and breaks down to avoid being shot. (a sad sad micromanaging cheat if you asked me)

I'm going to experiment with them some more, but with some veteran and weapon upgrades, they can be pretty fearsome and highly mobile.

I'm going to limit spending as much on machine guns and anti-tank guns except for solid fixed positions now. Use grenadiers where the situation is still fluid.

Ammo is the only real limitation they have, full upgrades cost 150

Totally agree with this assessment. I used them before, but didn't realize the mobility until you contrasted it here.

Ya, MG42 specialist squads and some mixed utility squads early in the game. Leapfrog them over each other, keeping them in pairs the whole time. Never have one alone, so they can lay down dual machine gun fire suppression, and utility squads to pop light tanks.

Later in the game panzer squads to hammer tanks and structures.

Using a couple of those 2nd tier transports (the ones that can upgrade to flame trucks/artillery trucks), I think you can put either 6 to 8 panzer squads inside. If you can deliver that right into the heart of an enemy base, while the enemy is out front. They pop out and I'm pretty sure you'll be nuking a building almost every time they collectively fire.
Then, unless the enemy has a crapload of infantry or lots of area effect weapons nearby, 30 odd grenadiers are a lot harder to get rid of then a few tanks trying the same thing.

Yea - just doesn't fit my playstyle. Playing against humans at all regardless of doctrine just doesn't work for me. :\

A new record! Swifty and I last night with two random people in a 4v4 map, won with the ticket count of 16 for us and 11 for the enemy. (We ended up crushing his bases rather than running down the tickets.)

They had us pushed back into our bases with us at 24 or so tickets and they stood at 240 tickets. But, they made the classic blunder of letting us recover. Had they remained aggressive, we would have lost.

But, we recovered and pushed them back. In one battle on my side I killed 5 or so Shermans with one PaK, two STuGs and three platoons of Stormtroopers. That broke his left flank and we began the push. Swifty and his partner on the right had a bit more tough time as the guy was sweeping them with Calliope barrages.

Great battle and one Swifty and I found ourselves cheering afterward.

  11. I've managed to wear out headsets again until I get a wireless setup - I think it's the only way I'll even be able to keep in touch! However, I will be on the beta for the remainder pre-launch under my usual nickname... I just won't be able to talk.

    No change there, then
