PS2 PhysX eye candy

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Khorneholio, 16 Nov 2012.

  1. The Particle Turbulance looks pretty awesome! Would be nice if the elevators were completely made of directional flowing particles instead of just the bottom though.

  2. That would be cool.

Since I'm CPU limited 95% of the time, I just might turn these bad boys up and enjoy.

  3. Meh... I really don't need all those sugar-plum fairies dancing around my head. :physX - Off:

Hmmm... I don't remember seeing any of those effects I thought I had it on.

Hmm, makes me want to get a 660Ti at least.

  6. Have to have the 310.54 beta drivers to get the option to be select-able in the settings. I installed them to to check it out last night, then the servers went down and foiled my attempt to.

  7. awesome, cant wait to see these in game

  8. Looks great but like Saieno wish they went all the way up for the elevators.

  9. I turned the PhysX on on my computer, and while it looked nice, it really bogged down my system. I might start looking to upgrade my system again.

The question, however, is that if I do upgrade my video card, will my CPU become a major bottleneck? I have an i7 920 2.66 GHz that I've been considering overclocking. Does anyone have a good overclocking guide? I have an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 mobo.

  10. One or the other is gonna be your bottleneck. You just may jump from being GPU bound to being CPU bound, or vice versa. I have a 3570K @ 4.2ghz and I'm cpu bound.

As far as overclocking goes... usually one can just type in their CPU and mobo + overclocking in youtube and find a plethora of guides. :)

  11. I have the same processor and my game has been running great, though i have an ati card so i cant test it with phsyx

  12. Yeah, my game runs fine without PhysX, but I'd like to give it a boost for both a frames-cushion and to maybe be able to use PhysX while playing.

  13. I was seeing that the physX option for gpu PhysX was affecting everyone. I hope it changes soon, I recently picked up a gts250 as a dedicated ppu. (I was actually hoping for a gddr5 gt240, but heck...$40 gts250? I'm in)

@khorne when I've read reviews, they usually overclock any processor(even my old i7-920) to at least 3.8ghz to prevent cpu bottlenecking.

I'm running a 3570k as well with 8gb of samsung low profile, low voltage ram. I can get up to 4.5ghz comfortably with the ddr timings around 2133 11-11-11 @ 1.5v. I'm running a gtx 680 as well. Even with that GPU it makes a huge difference, having the dedicated ppu.

@frothymug what board do you have your 920 on and do you know which stepping it is?

  14. I have an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2. IIRC, it's on the x58 chipset. I think the BIOS will have some automatic settings for me to switch. Asus does a good job of programming their motherboards to make them overclocking friendly.

I have the board set at the default settings. I've always shied away from overclocking all of these years, but I may be forced to do so, due to a lack of upgrade funds.

And here I thought someone hacked a Playstation 2 so it used a PhysX card.
