  1. Greetings from BigRed. You may want to sit down if you’re not already.

It is with the greatest degree of sadness that I have to report the following:
The game servers I have been running will no longer be available.

For the last six years I have been running servers for various games. Let me take a moment to give a brief history. We started out with the game of Quake. Had it running on a DEC Alpha 533MHz. Fast as lightning at that time, as the fastest processor we were selling at that time was a Pentium 233MMX. I say “we”, meaning iNET Computers, Inc., where I was employed at the time. For those of you who remember a ways back, you may recall seeing BountyHunters TeamFortress. When Quake2 arrived, “iNET Alpha Quake 2”, and several servers with that game. Weeks when “iNET Alpha Quake2” was not #1 on the CLQ’s list, I was depressed for that week. HalfLife we ran for a while also. When Tribes came out – and then Insomniax – I was sure to try keeping the #1 server for that, too. Over the years I’ve done many expensive upgrades, trying to keep up to “bleeding edge” speeds (all of my servers were/are dual processor, for you techies). But I think what helped me the most was access to extremely fast internet access for my servers. Well, unfortunately, as the saying goes: All good things must come to an end. Well, this is the end. My access to extremely fast Internet is no longer available.

Thank you all for visiting my servers.

    See you around.

    Big Red,

You have given the Tribes playing community so much. You have done so much for CDL.

I'll miss your awsome servers but I will never forget the good times I had on them.

Your sense of humor was such a relief sometimes. I used to love it when you joined a server and you flew the huge ships across the maps (I know they were really bases). Everyone stopped being competitive for a minute and we all just goofed around and took silly screenshots of ourselves riding on the ships across the map.

One time I joined your server before I met you. My friends and I were dueling. I kept telling my friends I was in some kind of slump where no matter what I did, I couldn't kill anyone. Even if I worked a player down to a sliver of health, that player would kill himself before I could do it. Suddenly my dueling opponents were being slammed into the ground, thrown into big black holes that mysteriously opened up in the ground. I laughed very hard about that later.

I also liked that you encouraged Tribes artists. That night Osiris spelled out I luv u on your server while it was full. The map was broadside. You gave him a ton of beacons in his loadout. I had to defend the beacons from everyone once he deployed them. I like that pic.

The way you dealt with TKers was an art in itself.

You made this game fun for us all by providing amazing servers and by sharing your sense of humor.

I've always considered what you did for us a gift. Thank you, Big Red.

    Please stay in touch.

*pours a glass of ice cold orange crush, puts it in front of the empty place at the table and sits down to wait for Big Red to show up.

  5. Damn shame BR.. damn shame. :(

In t1, it was my favourite place to be because of the competetion, and the ping I would receive on that server...

From the year & 1/2+ I played on your server, I never once saw you fly a base across the map...... :(

Me crys :( The best times I had in T1 were on that server. T1 in itself has got to be the funest game ive ever played, the mod, the people and all the little things you did with it made it so much more. Thinking back I can only remember one time I thanked you for running Inet/thisplacehere, but it definatly deserves another thank you here for all that its worth. Oh and thanks for the screenshots :) I never had a chance to see the becon sign up close that queen was defending. I was on the opposite hillside duling the newbs with my missle launcher :p

  8. CDL was my first and favorite T2 server. Didn't play T1, but....

Hell. I'll burn one for BigRed tonight. :ap:

Kiryat, look for a server called "Final BigRed T2 server". It's the only T2 server Big Red is able to host now. It's on a good, fast connection.

... well I guess that makes it official. T1 is gone... I miss the flying ships and Godlike abilities you gave me BigRed.

You made the game really good for all of us. Thanks for being the Backbone of IX. Thanks for hosting the best IX server I ever knew of. You made the game that much better and it was always nice to have you around. Farewell :(

  11. Kinda like when the old neighborhood hangout, treehouse, clubhouse..whatever- finally gets torn down :(
Red's iNet server is where I got to know most of the Tribes players I still communicate with to this day.

BigRed's server is where the CDL was born. I am very sad to see it go the way of the dinosaur.

I really want to say we as the CDL appreciate what you gave to the community, BrD. It was a great big gift to all of us gamers. I personally thank you for all that you have done for us all. Take care and may Honor grace your brow, and your sword arm never grow weary.
