NWA-TNA on Spike TV!

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Black Drop, 3 Oct 2005.

  1. NWA-TNA is looking awesome. I watched it Saturday night (actually I Tivo'd/DVR'd it - and watched it last night). It is on Spike TV from 11pm to 12am Saturdays.

I think the interest may be back for me - I've been a long time fan of wrestling going back to Hogan/Andre in Wrestlemania 3. I've watched off and on since that time period and it looks like it's on again!
I've been fishing around the NWA-TNA for a couple of years now...I never really wanted to get into paying weekly to see it so I never put the time into it)

It reminds me of ECW alot. The reason being they put the danger back in move sets that the pussified WWE won't permit their wrestlers to perform. (They want them to get their 280 shows a year out of them and not be injured). Crazy flips, dangerous finishing moves, pile drivers and an insane crowd atmosphere.

    Feartured Wrestlers:
Ex-Buffalo Bill Monty Brown aka "The Alpha Male" is on there with his finishing move "The Pounce" (which looks like it's a variation of a no grabbing one on one stand up tackle)

Some names you know from ECW, WCW & WWE:
    Kevin Nash
    Jeff Jarret
Tag team - The Dudleys aka 3-D
New tag team 3 Live Crew (made up of Road Dogg aka BG James, Konan and K-Kwick aka Ron Killings)
    Rhino
Sabu - who looks absolutely ancient but he can still pull it off.
    Jeff Hardy

They have a high fliers division called the "X" Division with 5 or 6 wrestlers..most of the names escape me at the moment.
One dude on there is named the Canadian Destroyer with a finishing move of the same name. This finishing move starts off in the pile driver position, he full frontal flips the opponent and lands in the finishing pile driver seated position bouncing his opponent across the ring - it is a sick move!

AJ Styles is one of the favs, has a great variety of movesets and one that I've had my eye on for awhile now - He has a move that begin as a backflip off the 2nd rope where he catches his opponent in a reverse DDT. It rules.

The story lines are so-so and rehashed but the wrestling is entertaining.
If you get the chance and you like wrestling - give this a shot!

...and the WWE has moved back to USA Network. I've tried a couple of times to get back into them but to no avail. With their "no injury" policy they've relied heavily on storylines that just don't do it for me. I hope NWA-TNA gets big enough where it goes head to head with WWE...only time will tell!

  4. would it be wrong to admit as a child, my brother was extremely into watching this stuff... and well.. we were eating at mcdonalds before one of the matches out in california somewhere (it was a long time ago) and ran into nicoli volkof (sp) and randy "the macho man" savage, and his manager elizabeth, eating dinner there!!! at the time, the two of them were supposed to be enemies, so that just totally was hysterical to see. and i think my brother fell in love with elizabeth at that time, she was very small and petite! especially next to them two men! :) omg! now i feel really old! :) ahhh.. child hood memories surfacing!!! *tries to supress them* oh and we did get autographs!! :) they were actually really nice!

I don't watch wrestling anymore.... but I am curious as to why Jeff Hardy and Rhino aren't in the wwe?

  6. The Road Dogg is back? Sweetness.

I remember watching the Outlaws and DegenX.

  7. Orange...haven't you learned by now that I am full of suprises?

Yea Mig...my biggest claim to wrestling fame was brushing elbows (actually it was my elbow with his kneecap...lol) with Big John Stud in a Swiss Chalet in the late 80s.

Donkey - Jeff Hardy left the WWE about two years ago. He kept showing up late to arenas and didn't seem like he wanted to be there. He was given an ultimatum and he told Vince to shove it.

Rhino was a suprise to me as well...last I heard he went down with a neck injury about 2 years ago and never really got another big push in the WWE...mainly jobbing to up and commers.

It seems the NWA-TNA is picking up all of the "seasoned" wrestlers while the WWE keeps trying to push new talent. Even though I like to see the same faces, it is a short lived high - they have to inject new blood or else they will fail in the long term. WCW got into that for awhile and they got into a rut of trying to find the next crowd pop instead of concentrating on story lines - which hurt them in the Monday night wars.
The NWA-TNA have a guy they can call their own in AJ Styles - this guy is charasmatic and extremely solid in the ring. They also have the X-Division full of this "new blood", I think this division and their tag teams will start making heads turn.

Yea Kaoz...when NWA-TNA was on this past summer (I believe it was on Fox on Saturday afternoons) 3 Live Kru was toting themselves as the New Age Outlaws..but that changed when they came on Spike TV - probably because Vince McMahon still has rights to the name. That's probably also why the Dudley Boys are now known as 3D.

Oh I forgot Raven is in NWA-TNA as well...
