  2. While I believe someone in the military can be heroic, I don't think simply serving makes you a hero. Cops and Firefighters are definitly at the top of my list.

  3. Lately I have been really bored. So I did the thing where you look in the mirror and try to understand yourself and came to the conslusion that I'm really egotistical and I say "I" way too much. But I can't control it!

I don't know if it's good or bad. On the one hand I'm annoying the hell out of everyone.. even myself! On the other hand egotistical people are so self centered that I just don't think anything can really bother them.

What am I supposed to do?

  4. Sentrosi

    Sentrosi Protocol Officer Officer

    Officer
Cops keep the streets safe for everyone. Out of that list, cops are my personal heroes. Got a thankless job that hardly pays what it's worth doing, 3/4 of the time the people you talk to hate your guts and believe you're trying to frame them, the other 1/4 of the time you're dodging bullets.

But, to be fair and honest, Teachers are my #1 hero. You're entrusting the knowledge and growth of your child to your teacher. That teacher gives your kid the door to entirely new worlds. As a parent I'm looking closely at what our schools around here believe in and teach. You've only got one shot at bringing up your child the right way.

    My list

    Teachers
    Nurses
    Doctors
    Cops
    Firefighters
    Soldiers

  5. DonkeySmiler

DonkeySmiler Eater of Gnomish Persons DragonWolf

Here comes Mr. Pessimistic..... right down Santa Claus Lane.....

What sucks is with a decision like this is that there are people doing these jobs that taint the honor and respect the true heros deserve. I kind of agree with Sent, a GOOD teacher is a wonderful thing, however, what is with these people who seem to not even enjoy working with other people (let alone children) that become teachers?!!? Personally, I know a few people who became teachers that are some of the worst human beings I have had the displeasure of meeting..... I seriously think it should be almost as hard to become a teacher as it is to become a doctor (and the pay should reflect this :p ).

The same thing can be said for cops.... the good cops deserve all the credit in the world. BUT take the cops in my community for instance, they are all pushing 300+ lbs (not that there is anything wrong with this, but if any profession besides an athlete had some sort of health requirement you would think it would be cop/firefighter). I've personally (and most of my friends) been pulled over multiple times for no reason..... and I know your probably thinking "there had to have been some reason". Well there wasen't..... The cop said nothing to me, took my drivers license came back and said that I was lucky cause he was going to let me off with a warning for a one inch crack (literally) in my wind shield..... your telling me he saw that when he pulled me over?!!? yeah right, he knw he had nothing and had to come out the big man. Yet as he powertripped with me people are getting raped/killed on the other side of town - justice ftw! So yeah, the good cops deserve all the respect in the world.

eh you get the idea, I really should learn to look on the brighter side of things, but at the same time if everyone looked on the brighter side of things these fools stealing the respect and honor they don't deserve would be even better off. Now all I need is to be elected king of the USA and I can rid the country of these fiends..... and cyrus..... I'll ship him to cuba without a return address :D

  6. Superman... seriously, in all honesty, I think Teachers, Cops, and Doctors are at the top of my list.

  7. A hero is someone that can STAY THE COURSE in their good deeds without the need for the spotlight.
Where priorities are in line for the the greater good, and the needs of us all considered. Following a non-destructive path of selflessness to help, aid and foster growth.
Such as a parent that is more concerned with their childs up-bringing over their own career is a hero. (Example, My wife and I decided BEFORE our first child that one of us will ALWAYS be home with them. We had no intention of putting them in day-care. Why have children with the intent to have someone else be their primary care-giver, during the most impressional and precious times.)

I would have to say that your list contains a small listing of noble professions.
I believe that a Hero is more defining of a person. Just because you are a Law-Enforcement officer, a Teacher, Clergy or Soldier you are not automatically granted hero-ship.

In Summation How you perform your duties and how carry yourself, defines you.

    A person is a hero.
