Granted, FOH are elitist assmongers, so anything they say should be taken with a grain of salt, you would like to think they know their stuff when it comes to mmos. *shrug*

I'm downloading anyway, gonna give it a whirl

The dl speed for me blows. I am still staring at a dl of 6 hours from yesterday. :|

  10. yeah, it's probably safer to dl the client before even signing up

  11. I'm waiting for my key.

  12. i got in but never could get the game to go past the updating part :-(

  13. Update your .NET framework to service pack 1. I had the same problem, but I did that and it works. I've only played it a little because I've been busy, but it seems like it should be pretty fun. I like the way combat works.

The stress test forums are pretty helpful for problems, too.

  14. Before I worked for mods I was a reviewer for game engines...

It's a curse, but come to mention it, Digital Extremes is probably the only company that hasn't given me a reason. Point is, if it is more affordable for a developer to screw you over, they will

I ran into an odd problem -- the game crashed to the desktop if I changed zones while in a party (if it was one of you guys who invited me to a party to kill kobolds last night, sorry about dropping abruptly :p ). I finally figured out that Windows XP's Data Execution Prevention was causing the problem, and made an exception for the game (so much for .NET programs being immune to memory problems :p ). This might not work in every case, as DEP uses features available in some processors to do its thing, and might work differently on different machines, but it's something to try if you run into this problem. :D

  16. I had a lot of obligations last night that prevented me from playing, but I should be around tonight to give it a go. What are your impressions?

    I'm not impressed.

Graphics are not what I expected. Everything just seems to be cut at a severe angle to me.

It just seemed like I was dropped into the middle of a town and said, "OK, now go!". At least with WoW it gave you some sort of backround on your characters race. I mean, I'm a Warforged Barbarian. I have no idea what the Warforged race is or what armor I can use. Which made it more frustrating than it should have been.

The interface takes a LONG time getting used to it. I remember in WoW the first time I played everything was there all spelled out for you.

Questing is ok and straight forward, just like a regular old PnP D&D session.

Overall, knowing that this is still in beta, I'd give it a 6.

I share Sentrosi's thoughts..... The game just feels sloppy. *shrug*

  19. Race and character descriptions/backgrounds are given during character creation. You have to scroll down to read them... also, I think there is a "more info" clickie you can hit to read about them.
