If you want people to be informed, perhaps you should post something more informative than a smear piece. Like all smear pieces, this does have grains of truth in it, but taken as a whole, it isn't informative at all.

The video starts with, "Barack Hussein Obama has three Muslim names", implying that we should not elect him while we are at war with Islam, because his names show that he has fundamentalist Islamic goals. Well, I have three German names. So, by posting this and implying that it is informative, and therefore truthful, your implication seems to be that my goal should be to start a Fourth Reich or something. Frankly, I'm deeply insulted that someone who I consider a friend would judge someone based solely on their name. I thought that I had left that sort of thing behind when I left junior high school. :(

Oh, and as much as some would like us to be, we aren't at war with Islam. One could say that we are at war with the Taliban in Afghanistan and with the Iraqi resistance (no longer with the countries themselves, we installed new governments which we are allied with, which is actually a very good thing for us long-term). One could also say that we are not even at war at all -- no war has been declared (note that I'm not taking a side in this particular debate, I think it's largely a matter of semantics, and really not worth debating).

In practically the same breath, the video moves on to point out that Obama has attended a certain Christian church with a controversial pastor for two decades (as if this was somehow unusual among members of Congress). So, which is it, is he a Muslim or a Christian? Actually, you know what, never mind -- I really don't care which he is, he worships the same deity either way.

Then, onto his "vague voting record". A cursory check of Senate records (now posted online -- the Internet can be a great thing) shows that he voted party-line 97% of the time. Disappointing, but hardly unusual for a Senator. Actually, I can't think of any senators who don't do that. A better measure is actually to look at legislation introduced.

Oh, and then, to the really juicy part, "he's unpatriotic". Well, the video doesn't demonstrate that, it just shows that he has on at least one occasion not placed his hand on his heart during the national anthem, and that he thinks wearing a flag pin is an empty gesture. Well, I didn't place my hand on my heart during the national anthem as it played in the video (did you?). I also have never worn a flag pin, I don't even own one. Would I? Maybe, though it would require that I cared enough to acquire one first. So, by extension, are you implying that I am unpatriotic?

Next, an odd diversion into an implication that the Democratic Party is made up of Soviet-style communists. This is, of course, ludicrous -- support for a few idiotic social programs doesn't make one a communist. Frankly, the only modern political party espousing anything similar to Soviet ideals is the modern Republican party, and their authoritarian social ideals, and even that is kind of a stretch. There are plenty of things wrong with the modern Democratic Party, there's no need to make stuff up.

I could go on, but I'm angry enough that I would just say something I would regret later, so I'm going to stop here in the interest of trying to keep the thread at least somewhat civil. Also, in the interest of trying to steer this back into something constructive -- if you feel that strongly about your dislike of Obama, why not dig into his legislative record and write up a critique? I've looked at it, and there's plenty of fodder in there, he's no different from any other senator in that regard. Or, if you're so inclined, campaign for Senator Clinton, help her stop Obama from winning the primary. Then, if that doesn't work, campaign for Senator McCain in the general election. If you are like me and you don't have time for a commitment like that, send their campaigns some money -- both are pretty strapped for cash.

Well said Symen, I am not going to touch this thing with a 30 foot pole. It's crap like this that's wrong with American politics.

I've heard everything from he is the next Anti-Christ to he is Muslim (which in some views is the same thing) all of which is hogwash. The issues.. look at the issues. No man is perfect and in fact I don't want my president to be a perfect man. A perfect man is not a man with real world experiences and expertise which is what the Government needs.

I don't want to vote for any of them anyway

  3. I've been undecided on who I'll vote for out of the three, I dont like any of my choices and most likely will vote for nader. This video points out facts about the man. I dont care about who he calls god, or where he came from. I do have a problem with the fact that he states he will not wear an american flag, that he hasn't (mostly likely will now after last weeks speech) come out agains his pastor.

I'm sure people are taking this personally, however do research and you'll see that all these points are true. Period, and friend ship has nothing to do with this topic.

No offence, but I dont game or talk with anyone thats still in this clan. Thats not being rude, or mean its just the truth. In fact hammer just delete this profile, I dont really play games anymore anyway.

I can't remember a time when I actually liked any of the choices. Sometimes I think we should just put everyone's name in a really big hat and pick one. I doubt we'd do worse. :p

    Some, yes. It's mostly hyperbole.

Nor do I. I consider myself unqualified to determine which of the ten-thousand-odd religions in existence is the correct one.

The whole issue seems ridiculous to me, especially when it has devolved to the point of politicians slagging other politicians on national television for not wearing a pin, while not wearing a pin themselves. It's enough to make one's head spin, and it's a colossal waste of time -- whether or not someone wears a certain pin says nothing about their ideology.

He did this back in March.

So, just so we are clear, you are, by extension, standing by your assertion that I am a Nazi purely because of my German ancestry. Understood.

Based on past conversations with you, I assumed somewhat differently, for which I apologize. Good to know where we stand, and good luck to you in your future endeavors.

Respond or not at your discretion. I will not be reentering this conversation.

  7. wow...just wow...

  8. I'm not sure what you want to call me, I'm half German and I believe half Jew(if Goldman is Jewish)

I think what he really wants to call you is a friend and I believe he hoped you call him the same.

-true friends preserve the right to have and to voice entirely different opinions.

  10. This doesn't change anything about the way I think of him. I have only 1 or 2 friends, I have a lot of acquaintances and yes hes still one.

I guess it just comes down to what I call a friend (thats someone I would loan money to, let him stay in my home if hes down on his luck, co sign a loan for if needed etc) I've been burned too many times in the past so now I am very careful with whom I call friend. Mybe I call change my above def into Best friend and then change....bah you know what I mean.

I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, I didn't mean to.

I'll not be on the fourms for a while, I'm leaving friday to go to vegas for my 30th birthday. STaying at the luxor

  12. I think it's amazingly ironic that you recommend we all inform ourselves but you fail to even inform yourself about the basics. It's like watching any political attack ad on TV against any opponent and believing the lines you're fed.

Quite honestly, people like you are what scares me most about this country. You preach under the guise of being well informed all the while having never bothered to go beyond the spoon fed smear campaigns.

If anyone is disenchanted by this election cycle you have not been paying attention. There are three very interesting front runners. Regardless of how you lean politically, the contest between the three is great to see.

I do violently disagree with Barack Hussein Obama on one thing, he believes the majority of Americans are intelligent enough to see through things like the clip you posted and find out the truth.

If anyone wants to have an intelligent political debate on these forums about the up and down sides to each candidate, I'm all for it and would happily participate. But I'm not interested in talking to people who simply regurgitate media smear campaigns, regardless of the candidate, and think that they are "facts" and it makes them "informed".

Take some of your own advice.

  13. And just to illustrate how truly ironic:

So his religious affiliation (he's a Christian...always has been and is very out spoken on the place of religion in politics), his background (son of a black man and a white woman, who grew up with very little, turned down a lucrative career to be a community organizer and help the poor in Chicago, became a U.S. Senator and is now running for President) does not matter to you.

But you find him unpatriotic because he "will not wear a flag pin". Which is actually not true. He has not refused to wear one, in fact he put one on only a week or two ago when he was handed one by a Marine supporter at a rally.

In his own words: “My attitude is that I’m less concerned about what you’re wearing on your lapel than what’s in your heart," he told the campaign crowd Thursday. "You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those who serve. You show your patriotism by being true to our values and ideals. That’s what we have to lead with is our values and our ideals.”

And finally, when all the Reverend's comments came to light he denounced them and made a stirring speech on racism in this country. If you really want to be informed, watch it some time. http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/hisownwords

As for the Reverend as a man by himself, try reading http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-oped0404wrightapr03,0,92000.story

He might have some very strange opinions on matters, but that does not make him less of a patriot. I love how we've taken to labeling everyone who doesn't go with the status quo as unpatriotic.

Seriously, I might not like some of John McCain's policy views, but I'm not idiotic enough to believe all the shit the left says about him. He's not George Bush, he's 10X them man George Bush will ever be. I just wish McCain would be more like the man he was 3 or 4 years ago, he's swung a little to right since then.

Anywho, if you are really serious about informing yourself, you might want to dig slightly deeper than you have.

Yea sadly there are alot of folks out there who base their views or vote on one youtube video or blog entry out on the internet. Or even worse just vote on someone randomly without putting much thought into it based on only one particular political view. Even though I am not much of a fan of any of these guys I've been following the race pretty closely, it certainly is an interesting cycle :D

  15. I'm pretty much content with anyone but hillary at this point :p

    However, I do <3 huckabee.
