The Origin of your Warrior Name

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by {{eMaGyN}}, 15 Jul 2002.

1. How did you come about chosing your T2 name?
I'm interested in learning what your name means to you :)

2. Manitou

Manitou Old War Horse DragonWolf

When I first started gaming long ago, I always used names specific to the game I was involved in. For example:

D&D: Rustam III
FPS: Alvin York
Flight sims: Gargoyle

When Full Otto turned me onto the Tribes Universe, I had planned on using the name Gargoyle. But I saw someone else with it and I was horrified!

Ground Chuk, one of the founders of the CDL, used to be in a band with the name Manitou. I liked it and asked him if I could confiscate it for my use in Tribes 1. He said sure, and thus the name Manitou became my official warrior name for Tribes.

Manitou means:
man·i·tou or man·i·tu Pronunciation Key (mn-t) also man·i·to (-t)
n. pl. man·i·tous or man·i·tus also man·i·tos
1) In Algonquian religious belief, a supernatural power that permeates the world, possessed in varying degrees by both spiritual and human beings.
2) A deity or spirit.

3. Full Otto

Full Otto Chain Gun Madman

It was the way I played and the weapon I loved. The Chaingun!

Full Otto Matik - Hit hard and fast with guns a blazin'

Full Otto Matik means:

full-otto-ma-tick Pronunciation Key
1) No safety
2) Full trigger depression
3) Lots of lead

Otto
If it can die, the chaingun will kill it

4. Asmodeus - Greek Mythology. :p look it up. ;)

I've actually had this name for.. oh... many years. too many to count.
I think... about 5 or 6 years now.

5. Oed

Oed

Been online for WAY to long (300 baud modem on BBS's playing Tradewars).

Used to be called:

Tired...then people go to know me and then
Wired.

After that, I grabbed names from characters I was playing in role playing games.

Krelwin, Khein, and finally Oed.

Not really all that exciting really.

6. Er....

Well I really liked that kid Ray from Jerry McGuire. He cracked my shit up.

So in Diablo 2 I made all kinds of names with Ray in them Raythor and crap like that for the 8 or so guys I had.

So when T2 loaded up, I thought Hmmm...Ray..something. Rayzer seemed to go along with the whole, "Its cool to use normal words but spell them like you're an idiot" theme.

So nothing deep and meaningful.

Roveth in DAOC. Well they have this neat little button called Generate Name, I just hit that until I thought something sounded sweet. :)

Rayzer means:

Its a game I'm here to have fun. If I kick your ass you will remember my name not matter what it is.

What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. - Big Willie

A name doesn't make me who I am, I do.

Well that and I'm lazy as shit so I didn't want to spend all that time figuring out a really cool name. Didn't even know if I would like the game :)

7. Great Dane

Great Dane THE LEGENDARY BANNED</

Once upon a time my dad had a dog......

He was a Yellow Lab named Joey, and he lived to be 16 years old. As Joey got older he devolped a skin problem, and it cuased him to smell like "dog". Well it was about that time that I moved in with my dad who lived in a very small apartment. As a result of Joey's problem my dad's apartment, and everything inside of it smelled like dog including the people that lived there. I mean you'd wash your clothes, put them in the drawer and pull them out the next day and they smelled. Well my friends being the nice guys they are took to calling me "Dog Boy".

Despite the fact that they liked the name so much I didn't really care for it (as you might have guessed). One night we were out at a local bar having some beers, and when we were leaving one of my friends (in an atempt to embarress me) says "Hey Dog Boy, let's go". The whole bar turned and looked at me, and I had to try and save face, so as I stood up I replied (in true John Wayne style) "They call me the Great Dane". It was the biggest dog I could think of at the time, and at 6' 2" 220 lbs it sort of fit.

Anyway some guy in the bar said "Why do they call you that?" and I said "Ask your old lady." Everyone in the bar started laughing, and ever since then people have called me Great Dane.

8. Well my friends being the nice guys they are took to calling me "Dog Boy".

My friend did something similar, however, mine doesn't have a happy ending so I won't tell you what is was :p

9. from the movie 'point break' with keanu reeves. theres a dude called warchild in it. i used to live where this bald headed freak owned a 68 impala sedan. one day, my brother and i saw him filling his car up with gas...i point and say "lookit' warchild 2-buckin his ride!!!" we were both kinda tipsy and laughed and laughed. so t1 comes around and i need a name, warchild was already taken, i saw some other person with it, so i changed it to 'WarChilde'. and that is how i got my online name.

10. oh man, ok here goes...

the first game I ever played online was xwing vs tiefighter. For that game my very first online name was Xwing1098. Well I played that game for awhile, then a friend (I believe his name was Honor Guard) turned me on to jedi knight, dark forces 2. I kept the Xwing name for awhile till I heard about an Anime clan. At the time I was getting into Anime and stuff, so I asked if I could join, and I was let in. At the time I liked the Anime series Ranma ½. So my new name was Anime_Ranma. So I played that for a long time. Then eventually the anime clan disbanned, and I joined a new clan for jedi knight called MSGW (mobile suit gundam wing) even though I didn't know much about the series at the time, I knew it was anime, and still liked anime. So the guy told me I needed one of the pilot's names. So I chose Quatre, why? because he was the last one not taken by anyone else =P.

So for awhile (very short while) I was MSGW_Quatre. Then they disbanned, and I joined a clan called The Emperor's Hand. Hence the name Teh_Quatre. After awhile, jedi knight got kinda boring to me, so I moved on to asherons call, where I played (and still do) by the name Teh Quatre.

Then I got Mankind, a real time massive multiplayer online game where you build fleets of starships, build bases on planets, etc. I played by the name of Quatre there as well. I joined a clan called DTren, in mankind, which quickly died...no real importance there, but I just remembered it. Anyway, I had a friend in mankind that said to me one day "hey, you gonna get tribes 2 when it comes out?" and I told him "um...what is tribes 2?"

So he explained it, and I became interested in it. So the day the game came out, I bought it. Played under the name of Quatre, joined CDL a month or 2 later, then a few months later, I got tired of the name, and wanted something unique, rather than the name of an anime character I don't even like. So, I changed my name to Kaikou (mysterious light in japanese) and here I am :D

11. It's not a name. It's a description.

12. yeah yeah whatever =P

supposedly its a real hawaiian name...cause some guy in SOF2 the other night asked if I lived there because he had a friend at school with the same name

13. Om

Om DragonWolf

I had a Hawaiian friend named Kazumi which means storm or strong winds.

I used that as one of my gazillion smurf names in Tribes 1.

Someone on a forum made a joke about looking for an old fashioned woman who didn't mind having her feet bound. I figured I would torture him with a picture of a horribly disfigured "golden lotus" foot, unbound. In my search for the perfect picture I stumbled on some of the history of foot binding.

My name comes from an old chinese political slogan. "Women hold up half the sky," is what chairman Mao of China said in a speech to the people on the day he ruled it illegal to bind the feet of women, declaring women equal to men. It's a long road to travel from declaring equality to actually having equality.

I like imagining all the people working together to hold up the sky. I used this as my smurf name for a while in tribes 1 and I really liked the funny death messages, "winter knight blasts half the sky out of the sky", stuff like that. So I eventually adopted it as my primary name.

14. I was talking about me Kai :p

15. I thought you were talking about you :p

16. p.s. Sky, that is really sweet, your name is about 100X cooler now in my book :) And it was already way sweet ;)

17. Name Origin

Well a friend made my name up a long time ago as a ICq name "Ðagger" so then he joined [S=A] and i wanted to join so i had to have a name so i picked Dagger.... so then as time went on.. i kept the name and never changed it and then went T2 came out.. i went to make an account and someone already had Dagger... so i made Daggs.... and thats how that happend.. other people have told me Daggs means a bum wearing bike shorts and a tank top, and other things.. but no matter what they say its a name.. i'll keep it till it no longer suits me or i get tired of it =P.
