  1. found this on another forum...heh...there is hope for the media yet...

Andy Rooney said on 60 minutes a few weeks back:

"I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the Caucasian CollegeFund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens. Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, that is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.

I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.

When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability.

I believe that if you are selling me a milk shake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!

My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours. I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry ass if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.

I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor. I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn't stop you from watching them.

I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better, and put your name on the building. Ask your buddy that invented the Internet to help you. (Al)

It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say "NO!"

I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!

I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa, so how can they be "African-Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else."

I have never read anything that was more cut and dried than what Andy Rooney stated above. I have a small story I'd like to share with everyone here regarding this.

Last night I was at a surprise 30th birthday party for my sister-in-law. My inlaws are all Italian, most are first generation Italian. So, there are a lot of people here with inflated ego's about themselves and how they view the world. And if anyone has spent time around these people they know that you cannot argue with most of them. Their opinion is the right one.

So, a family friend and his wife were at the party with us. Both came over here about 20 years ago and started a family. He opened up a pizza shop, she opened a salon. Both were successful with their businesses and he retired from the pizza shop and sold his share. She's still running the Salon and making a good wage at it.

The two of them are building a house in Italy. They want to bring the rest of the family over with them. They have 3 kids, two girls, one boy. The two girls are 20 and 17 with the youngest being the boy, 13. As you could probably figure out, there is a lot of resentment towards the parents for moving back to Italy.

    Ok, so the subject comes up at dinner about the move. The husband is of the opinion that Italy is far superior than America and is very prejudicial about non-Italians. Naturally, me being as far from Italian as possible, I start to take offense to what he is saying about Americans. How we are lazy, fat, slobs. How most Americans don't know our own history. How most Americans don't care about voting or the state of the government right now. Yeah, I'm offended that he lops me into that crowd. But, this next statement really took me like a slap in the face;

"Most Americans wouldn't die for this country if they weren't told to do so."

I pushed my chair out from the table, looked down at my wife and said that we needed to leave. I didn't want to make a scene at the party, but I could no longer sit down and keep my mouth shut. So, she gathered our things and we made ready to leave.

The Husband stands up and asks why we're leaving. I told him that we needed to go. He asked me again, this time standing right to my chest. (I'm 6'3", he's 5'7") I told him because it was late. He insists that I tell him the truth. I shake my head and look at my wife. We start for the door and the Husband yells out, "See? Another Lazy American who can't defend his ideals." I dropped my wifes hand, walked over to him, looked down his guido nose and said that he really didn't want to continue with this and perhaps he should go home. His wife is pulling on his arm trying to get him to sit down. I told her that she needs to start talking some sense into the guy before something happened. He looks up at me and says, "What is gonna happen? You going to throw a punch at me?" I turned to go letting my silence speak volumes.

Was this the end of the story? Nope.

The husband follows me out to the parking lot where he demands the real reason why I was leaving. I tell him that I could take no more of his prejudicial bullshit any longer. I told him that he should go to his knees right now and pray to God Almighty for the blessings he gave him when he moved from Italy. I told him that he dishonored 6 generations of my family by saying no other American would defend this homeland. I told him that when he gets to Italy and starts saying how lazy Americans are, to just remember how lazy we were back around 1944. And remember how quickly we stormed thru Italy on our way to Germany.

I got in my car, and drove away.

Today, I got a call from his wife apologizing for his actions. I asked her why he can't get on the phone and apologize? She said that he could not do it for some reason blah blah blah. Pretty much after she said that he couldn't do it I shut her off.

My sister-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law all came over for Sunday dinner today. The discussion was about the rest of the birthday party. But it had a pall cast over it due to some ignorant person.

Will I talk to him again? Probably not. Unfortunate, but if he believes Italy is so much better than America, I've got $1000 for a plane ticket for him to go home on right now.

  6. "easy to forget the past, when it's not staring you in the face..."

I bet if Italy, France, any of the other countries where the views of Americans are negative... ever got attacked, threatened, invaded etc... they would be on the phone with us good ol Americans ASAP asking for a fuckin handout or some help. I just dont get it.

  7. In the Good old days I used to be quite the pontificator....
So… I will try to coerce my drunken my mind to use as few words as possible…

#1. We Americans have a tendency to use our ancestry as a staple (i.e. “I’m Scottish” or “I’m German” etc…)
    …yet…
#2 We Americans will be abroad and state, “I’m American.”
#3. Please remember - we *are* the “Bank Of The World”, and as a relatively young country, that (seriously) pisses off a lot of people.

So….where the hell does responsibility lie in-between Pride and Social Interaction? Only a few folks have I met with the right balance of integrity and fairness.

Me personally? I always fill in the box on questionnaires labeled “Other”. (I write in AMERICAN)

To wit = I’ve met people that claim they are “African American” thusly, I state I am impressed because I’ve never met someone with dual citizenship before. They angrily state “You know what I mean…” I reply, “You know what *I* mean.”
    The conversation ends.

    But I digress…

SENTROSI, there is no disrespect in my statement that I believe you handled the situation in the most adult and adroit manner you know how. honest~!
As a 3rd generation Italian, I would have handled that situation differently (I have an advantage). I would have handled it in a (belligerent yet) more acceptable manner. You have to ‘know’ how the Italian heritage bases it’s structure. How the ‘family’ unit operates. Knowing when your argument is sound and logical in it’s foundation with the correct inflection of emotion. These are paramount in this type of argument before you ‘reply’.
Man…it’s a convoluted situation, and believe me - A *lot* easier (and better) of a situation that I have to deal with my mother-in-law.

But this a family affair and It's prolly best if we all stay out of it~!

    Later (and good luck)~!

Understood PM. I have received a bunch of requests from family members to mend this break. However, being the Germanic American that I am, I will succumb to my Germanic upbringing and remain steadfastidly stubborn in regards to this. By insulting my 6 generations of fighting soldiers and sailors, all of whom except for my father (Vietnam from 1962 to 1964), volunteered to fight for our glorious country, he dishonored my entire family line.

Something else I neglected to post about "him". When he retired, he still collected a paycheck from Uncle Sam because he was unemployed. With a house valued at over 275k (paid off a long time ago) and his two cars (both of which are Mercedes) paid off as well, and a wife who was earning enough money to support both of them, he sat and collected a paycheck from the USA. He also flaunts around how he has not had to pay income taxes in over 2 years. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

  9. If he wants to talk about dieing for your country, remind him how the Italians were such laughably bad soldiers during WWII. They couldn't really do much of anything else.

  10. Sounds like someone needed a knuckle sandwhich for dessert Sentrosi.
I could see if he came over here from Italy, failed miserably and then decided to go back...but a majority of his success and who he is (identity) came from his second home. Basically he pimped out this country for his own needs and wants to go back to his "real" home...slighting our forefathers in the process. I would have done the same thing you did Sentrosi - My reason being I wouldn't have given him the satisfaction of my time in telling him the err of his ways. When you get that high up on the money tree...its easy to look at everyone and their opinions as inferior.

The grass is always greener on the other side...maybe this guy will get the meaning of this someday. You are a class act Sentrosi.

  11. You're a good man Sentrosi. The ignorant fool speaks the loudest. It's easy to forget how great America is when you're here, but ask anyone recently from another country, or who's recently left, and they'll remind you. Karma's a bitch, he'll get his. You're the bigger man.
