Make a Wish

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by PumpMonkey, 5 May 2004.

  1. As a parent, and someone who is in the gaming industry and knows the VP of the Make A Wish Foundation, this stirs some very personal feelings.

Check it out; I think you'll be very, very impressed...

    Ben’s Wish: Make a Videogame [5/5/2004 2:50:57 PM ET]
According to an AP story, the Make-A-Wish Foundation recently paired a nine-year old suffering from Leukemia with a videogame designer, in order to create a videogame in which the hero kills cancer cells.
Ben Duskin, of Greenbrae, California, worked with LucasArts’ Eric Johnston on the game, entitled Ben’s Wish, which will be available for free download from the Make-A-Wish website beginning on Friday.

Wow. <3 to make a wish foundation. Those kids are so appreciative of everything, too. Good kids.

That game makes a lot of sense because part of a cancer patients defense against cancer is visualizing themselves overcoming it. This game will probably help a lot of kids for that reason.

One time a make a wish child came in for dinner at the restaurant where I worked in college. I used to perform there as "the girl in the red velvet swing" and after each set I would let kids come up and I'd push them in my swing. This boy had come for dinner as part of his special make a wish day and after I gave him a ride in my swing, he asked me if he could have one of my gloves, explaining that Emmit Smith had let him have a glove earlier in the day...how could I resist that? ...so I gave him my glove. He was so thrilled with just that small thing. I had to scrounge for an old, worn out, dried up pair (old leather gets a bit crispy) that had gaping holes in it for my next set because rope burns are not fun. My hands bled a little that night, but I felt so very wonderful, like I'd made a good kid happy even for 2 minutes. <3

  5. WOW~! Excellent gift Queen~! ;)

Another thing that has impressed and touched me is that Donald Roeser (Buck Dharma of Blue Oyster Cult fame) had heard of an 11 year old with in-operateable Brain Cancer. This 11 year old was of a "never-say-die" mentality and he envisioned that Godzilla was helping him fight his terminal cancer. Upon hearing this news, Roeser threw together a band and did a fund raising concert for him for free. I believe then that a move was made at the Roesers personal home and the film is now being used for Children’s Hospice.

A the saying goes.... "Miracles DO Happen"
    ;)
