James Doohan who played Scotty on the orginal Star Trek series passed away this morning. He was 85. Born in British Columbia and raised in Sarnia, Ontario (A Canuck!... I never knew!). He also took part in the D-Day landings in Normandy at Juno Beach.

It's a sad day for Trekkies!

Something is just wrong with the world. We lost Doohan and keep Shatner... who's doing ads the pet sock puppet wouldn't have done...

  7. my co-worker and i were reading some stuff today about it...apparently he was suffering from alzhiemers too... :(

  8. Yea...Jimmy contributed a LOT to the genre (including books).
In fact, if memory serves, he actually grabbed a tape recorder and spoke (created) the first few words of Klingon for the first TREK movie. (the words spoken by the Klingon captain played by Mark Leonard and later on an actual recognized language originally penned by Marc Okrand).

And in one of TOS episodes ("The Doomsday Machine") when Scotty is telling Kirk how to self-destruct the ship as he rams it into the Planet Killer, he is not using his accent. he (Jimmy) thought it was a rehersal, not a 'take'.

    ;)

  9. I have a feeling that if the Star Trek on-line game is any good, I might be saying something like...

"Yes, yes...it is very funny Schrike. Now beam down my clothes~!!"
