Patriot Guard Riders. awesome. I saw a group of motorcyclists in downtown Raleigh participating in some kind of ceremony at a war memorial there. I wonder if it was them. ...they don't so much like jane fonda from their bumper stickers. What the phelps family is doing at funerals reminds me a lot of what jane fonda did to POWs. It breaks my heart that they choose to tread on something so precious to a family, but they've also awakened some heros and that is good for my soul.

 

Pretty bad when I don't even have to read the article to know it is Fred Phelps. The unofficial ambassador to Kansas. The biggest problem with that guy is he and his daughter are both attorney's. So anything they try to do to squelch him at funerals ends up in court.

We are actually crafting laws to help deter him, but they have to be so carefully written that they take too much time. In the mean time they are not getting to real problems. Like not being able to buy liquor on Sunday's.

isn't he the guy who started the whole godhatesfags website? started after matthew shepards death...well he makes all his money by getting people pissed off enough to physically attack them...then they proceed to sue the crap out of them to make more money to spread more hate...

 

I didn't even finish the article. I am Baptist, born and raised. I'm raising my children as Baptists. This sickens me. This man doesn't believe in God. The bible states do unto others...you know, the golden rule. So this guy wants people to picket his wife's funeral saying "Thank God she's dead!"

I think what disgusts me the most is the fact that people died fighting for the very right and freedom which allows him to protest.

The Patriot Guard Riders are saints in my opinion. Thank God for them. These poor families are dealing with enough, the last thing they need is the first idiots and I'm so glad that bikers (the original badasses) are standing up and saying enough is enough.

 

This touches on what we've discussed on other threads recently. Humans love to gawk at human suffering. Human suffering sells newspapers but in this case, it has also stirred some to action. This is one of the few times I have to say the writer did a good job here. The way the article is written pulls readers into the story and makes their souls cry for those families and for those soldiers who lost their lives doing what they had to do for our country. It makes readers want to right this wrong. The Patriot Guard Riders are the heros of this story, just as they should be.

The views set forth by that moron are not that of all Christians, nor are the Westboro Baptist Church, the ones who do the God Hates Fags thing all the time. I get tired of having people throw idiots like these in my face to say Christianity is 'the problem'.

The good news is Phelps is old and can't live forever. And when that day happens I will be at his funeral with a "Satan Loves Fred Phelps" sign. And you know his family will be doing everything to have him buried in secrecy.

If the funeral home has half a brain they will charge $5 a head to spit on his corpse.

 

I couldn't agree with you more! Being a born again Christian myself, and having been raised Baptist, let me make it abundantly clear...this idiot doesn't represent the thoughts of any Baptist I know.

ya that asshat was at a funeral in greeley, as one of his targets last year, i have not ever been more outraged or sick to my stomach, watching a grieving family have to deal with this kind of crap at a funeral. i wanted to personally go down and kick him and his followers asses. i am glad to see the riders there showing support. As someone said, the only reason that asshat can do that is because of people like the soilders that sacrafice their lifes so that we can have our freedoms.

This is one of the reasons I hate religion and religous freaks in general.

 

To avoid a possible turn of events in this thread I offer up something that I learned in my waiter/bartending days:

Try to avoid talking about religion or politics when making conversation with people you don't know inside and out...and even if you think you know that person inside and out - tread lightly.

I don't have to remind anyone that these two subjects strike home for many people regardless of which side you fall. These are two subjects that hit so close to home with people that you will never convince someone steadfast in their views - even if you mean no harm. You will most likely always upset someone when talking about these two subjects.

Does that mean we can't talk about them? Hell no. Just remember we do have to be respectful that not everyone has the same views and that we are in a forum that is available to non-members.

If anyone ever disrupted my grieving family like that I would not hesitate to turn my sadness into rage.

Doesn't matter what they were there for or what they were protesting in whomever's (capitalize the W if you wish ) name.
