Apology in Order

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Manitou, 12 Nov 2006.

Since I was gone for the last ferw days I seemed to have missed a debate gone awry. As a matter of fact, it seems to have turned into a nasty little barfight. ;)

Since I am the CDL Admin it is incumbent upon me to maintain some semblance of order within the CDL. I failed to do this in regards to the aforementioned debate. For that oversight I apologize to all involved and especially to those who were personally offended by the direction of the thread and some of the individual postings.

But, I also state this for all my troops. You who wear the tag of the CDL wear it as a privilege. To have been selected and brought aboard the CDL should be something that matters to you. As such, it is individually your responsibility to police what you say and remember with whom you are discussing any topic up for discussion. Does that mean you may get in hot water with the Officers' Corps for voicing your opinion? As long as you do not personally attack a fellow CDL publically with the intent to belittle them or call into question their honor, no.

But one thing I will not allow is for my troops to begin to stab at each other in a way that degrades the gaming atmosphere that we enjoy here. Since it appears that happened during the course of this latest thread and I did not take precautions in ensuring that did not happen, I here now apologize.

For future reference, please remember to respect those who may not agree with you. When a debate seems to be starting, be an adult and establish the rules of the debate ahead of time and set forth the goal of that debate. Stay focused on the issues being debated and don't resort to ad hominem tactics.

Lastly, sometimes we may just have to agree to disagree, shakes hands and break contact.

    Fair enough? :D

  2. Agreed and already done.

  3. You know - I was quite frustrated with that thread early on, and I bailed out because it was starting to effect my mood around the house. Too many circular arguments, lack of listening, understanding, accepting, patient debate, etc…

Glad to hear you state that you've moved on Kai. I expected no less from you. And I would like state that it's all water under the bridge and would like to believe that others will follow suit.

I know, we have *all* done or said something at one point that we have regretted, or wished we could have the opportunity to rephrase it, or perhaps angered and/or insulted someone else. I’ll be the first to say that people upset me because of things they say and do (or do not say and do-as the case may be), and I get over it. For the most part (Because of who I am and what I do, I have to remember certian things - even if they bother me). And on that note, I'm going to cut-n-paste a poem that was turned into a children’s book. This is a story I read to them often...(I found it on the internet, so I'm pretty sure that we're 'okay' with it being posted.) ;)

    The Crayon Box That Talked

While walking in a toy store the day before today,
    I overheard a crayon box with many things to say;

"I don't like Red!" said Yellow, and Green said "Nor do I"
"And no one here likes Orange - but no one knows just why"

"We are a box of crayons that doesn't get along!"
Said Blue to all the others "Something here is wrong!"

Well, I bought that box of crayons and took it home with me,
And laid out all the colors so the crayons all could see.

They watched me as I colored with Red and Blue and Green,
And Black and White and Orange and every color in between.

They watched as Green became the grass, and Blue became the sky
The Yellow sun was shining bright on White clouds drifting by.

Colors changing as they touched, becoming something new,
They watched me as I colored - they watched me till I was through.

And when I finally finished I began to walk away,
    And as I did the crayon box had something more to say;

"I do like Red!" said Yellow and Green said, "So do I!"
And Blue you were terrific! So high up in the sky!"

"We are a box of crayons each one of us unique,
But when we get together the picture is more complete!"

That thread wasn't really too bad, considering. It started off as quite an enjoyable discussion, and though it got a bit ugly toward the end, folks were mostly cordial. Religion threads on the larger internet tend to devolve rather quickly into insinuations of one's heritage being unusually rich in species diversity. Not that we should base our conduct on that particular lowest common denominator, but I think we conduct ourselves pretty well, overall. I know that I always enjoy my time here with all of you fine folks. :D

When I made that thread, it was in no way meant to be religious. Grantd, what these people do is about religion, but my point had nothing to do with religion.

What was my point? Not really sure, beyond the fact that I really don't understand why people insist on calling it "terrorism". You know how I see it, and what it should be called.

I think that if it was called what it is, "cowardism", then maybe, just maybe, these people might not think it so "cool", or "grand" or whatever.

As we have seen here, language is so very important. As are "labels".

If perhaps we put the RIGHT label on this, then it wouldn't have as much "appeal".

Ask yourself which sounds more impressive..."terrorist" or "coward".

If a person wants to be a "terrorist", stand up and say "I'm going to take you and those around you out right now" and do it with your FISTS, or allow weapons as long as everyone else is armed also. And if you succeed in that endeavor, then yes, you are a "terror".

Sneaking in and blowing up unsuspecting individuals is nothing less than "cowardice", and should be named as such.

That is what I was trying to get across. Nothing more.

I apologize that I didn't step in and try to impress that point. But would it have mattered? I mentioned religion, as it does have to do with this, but it was a side point, which I tried to show as a side point.

I'm sorry I brought the whole thing up....but it is something I feel very strong about...they ARE NOT terrorists...they ARE cowards.

    That was my point.

I apologize for any misunderstandings and not trying to intervene.

Edit: This is just my feelings about the cowards. Yours may differ.

No animals were physically injured in the posting of this.

There actually IS a Santa Claus.
