buying a digi camera

My digi cam broke after years of wonderful use and great pictures and I need a replacement.

I asked a few photography buffs what they recommend. I like the ease of a point and shoot pocket camera, hate the delay that these things always seem to have when you take yoru shot and when the shutter actually opens. I want more flexibility that comes with a SLR camera because my son has a bit of a knack for taking good pictures and I want him to be able to use and learn with this camera plus I need to be able to fine tune focus, and lighting and take still shots of my artwork using tripod ...and maybe I might want to get a bit more into photography in general.

I heard from my photographer friends that a great, affordable, functional camera body to buy is the Nikon D40 because of one fabulous lens, the 18-200 VR lens which makes it pretty much a one lens camera and the vibration reduction adds a lot of stabilization that can absolutely make those long range shots.

The lens costs more than the camera, but from what I've heard and read, it's well worth it. It makes the SLR user friendly point and shoot but allows flexibility for complex, creative shots.

So, this is what I'm getting. YAY!! Brad decidedto upgrade to the D40x for the extra megapixels which is awesome, although my friend said those extra megapixels make almost no difference at all and are unnecessary.

but you have two lenses that will achieve similar results, yes? Just a little more work with having to change lenses. Your pics are awesome, hamma.

I am so happy. Took some great shots with my new camera, but I really don't have a way to host so many images online yet.

I posted one small shot on my blog: http://kimiam.wordpress.com/

    This camera is so awesome!!!
