Computer monitor/projector strobe light?

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Strygun, 28 Oct 2007.

  1. Hey folks,

Some friends of mine want to have a halloween party. To make it more fun, I'm going to hook up a projector to my laptop and have some fun with some sound-generated visualizations and such (think iTunes visualizer.) I found an interesting website that turns my monitor into a strobe light, but after trying it out, it seems almost dangerous to use (in terms of the monitor, not talking about epilepsy.)

You guys wanna take a look at this website and tell me what you think? If I use this on my computer monitor which is then fed into a projector (assuming long periods of use), what's going to happen?

I'd ask one of your mates to see if they have an older monitor lying around for this purpose. Rather see a 15" CRT get blown than your lappy's monitor.

If your mates really want you to do this, they should pony up the monitor.

  3. Don't know that this would hurt the monitor or not since it refreshes the entire screen every 8ms anyway. The only difference is you are going from Black to White how many ever times per sec you set it. But an older monitor would be better to use without definitive proof whether it is safe or not.
