D7 Peacemaker: Revalation

Discussion in 'Upcoming Games Discussion' started by Hyncharas, 13 Jun 2006.

  1. Some of you will know what I'm talking about while others won't. For the latter, therefore, I am going to provide some history.

Back in April-August 2004, I was part of a project with Dementia7 Studios; a company based in Dallas, TX that was working on a set of movies based in the popular form of anime. Their main franchise was D7 Peacemaker, and revolved around the story of bioengineered assassins by many countries around the world. While some were created to keep the peace between nations, there were others that wished to shatter this peace forever.

The project was to take the ideas of their fictional universe and bring them to life in the SOURCE (HL2) Engine, to do a remake of a "short movie" called D7 Peacemaker: Stage 1. Because of certain copyright restrictions, to be released as a free download. This was after the original product that was publihsed didn't fit correctly with the storyline featured in the later-planned movies, so an older, previously-unseen sript would be used.

At the time, there was also the groundwork for the first movie and the next chapter in development, as well as a commercial game. Unfortunately there was an issue that just couldn't be resolved.

Immense corporations being what they are have a simple rule: if a story makes sense to fans who actually watch it, but not the people who are spending large amounts of money broadcasting them, they drop them from production. This is exactly what happened with D7. Any company who handles publishing usually has a system. A developer builds a small bit of their idea, it gets sent to the publisher, and if they are not satisfied with the demo they send back a note for the developer for them to change it.

Tragically over the course of a year this happened 3 times -- still with the publisher being more interested in what their own ideas and not what the author wanted -- until D7Studios finally ran out of funding for the project. During this point the "mod" project was placed on indefinite hold, in the hopes that, one day, it could be revived.

This brings us to the present day. Now two years have passed with a new publisher, an entirely new premise from the ground up, and a better approach to how the stories will be done prior to some movies. Stage 1 was a 38min presentation. A "trial run", if you will, but very little was known about the girl or her mother's private life. So D7 Peacemaker: Revelation will be going far deeper into the fiction than Stage 1 ever did...

If you were ever a fan of this idea or just like interesting anime, check back regularly in the coming days for the new face of D7 Peacemaker.
