Dodge Challenger concept, and other reasons why I regret not going to the NAIAS

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by UncleDynamite, 9 Jan 2006.

  1. Talk about regrets. I was thinking for the longest time to gather up some friends and head to see the North American International Auto Show this year, but I ultimately decided not to. And what do you know, everyone decides to roll out a gaggle of cool new concept and production cars for this year's show. I'll admit that I'm not too crazy over retro cars, but the Dodge Challenger concept looks amazing:

No clue if they're going to turn it into a production vehicle, but it doesn't seem like a stretch to say that they might. It uses the LX platform, which most Chrysler cars will be using in the coming years, and it doesn't look like it would need much to change it into a consumer vehicle. We can only hope.

Other cars at the show include Chevrolet's retro Camaro, and Ferrari's new GTB:

Man, that Charger is sweet. Back when I was young (yes, we had cars then) a buddy had a '70 Challenger w/a 383; 4:88 rear-end - the works. I loved the look of that car and I love the look of this one.

    Retro is good. :)

    Retro > all

Car's owned back then - at least those 2 look better than what dodge came out with last. And the new mustang owns - at least the Shelby/SVT. The standard new mustang though eh - not that great.

    American Muscle Cars > * :p

  9. Yea those look sweet~!!
I just saw a picture of that new Dodge in a mag I was reading at the Dr. waiting room. I got distracted reading about the new Chevy Tahoe, about to come out. I never made it to the review of the Dodge. (shrugs)

Yes, Manitou we had cars back then, and they kicked butt~!! you could tell the difference between them and they had style~!

We all had something that we would show off...

My pal Tony had the Dodge Charger. '70-ish...(I cannot remember what engine, maybe 343 maybe??)
    Dave had a two-door Cougar (late 70's model) with a 351.
    Mike was the collector =
' 68 Mustang w/302 (not the Boss)a Ford Torino with the 460 interceptor in it.
and a '67 Camaro L88 with a 1200 pound clutch. His foot slipped off the clutch at the dealership. He popped a wheelie and stalled it. His dad said not to buy the car because he would end up killing himself. Naturally he bought it (but was forced to get rid of it) ;)

As for me, I had a convertable. 1970 Pontiac Catalina with the 400 bbl.

I went with the small car - big engine thing. I stuffed a 351 Cleveland into a '70 Maverick. It was an adventure, to say the least. Lots of "customized work" went into making that thing run.

Full Otto had a '72 Cougar with a big block Ford engine - thinking it was a 429 "Thunderjet", but not sure. We had to chain that thing in. We had replaced the 351 that was in it with that motor

    Good days indeed.

  11. The Camaro is just a concept drawing from a high school kid, believe it or not. The Challenger sounds like it may happen, check the lastest Motor Trend.

My first car was big and some what fast. A 66 Caddy Calis 2 door with a 429 and 4 BBL. It took 12 seconds to reach 60 but only 5 seconds more to reach 100 and it was solid all the way. :)

We used it for a driveins when it was 5 bucks a car load and there was 11 people in the car. Nobody had to be a on a lap.

  13. Yes... Camaros, Mustangs, Firebirds and Corvettes > * in my mind. I don't understand the obsession with lowered and tricked out japanese cars... they all sound like wet farts to me.

My dad had a Challenger way back in the day.

Then I was born and he had to sell it. I think that, to this day, this is why I have such bad luck with cars. The Mopar pantheon looked down on me when I was born and deemed it such. If he was still alive I'd do anything to get him that Challenger back.
