Dumpster Diving

After I picked the kids up at school today we were talking about our daily adventures and it took me about 15 minutes to convince the kids I had actually been dumpster diving. After we pulled into the driveway I had to show them what I found in the dumpster as proof I wasn't pulling their legs. I guess it was hard for them to imagine.

The local stone company invited me to go diving in their dumpster for castaway marble and granite I can use as bases for my sculptures and I had the best time. They even came out to meet me when they saw me at their dumpster. lol!! Who knew what fun you could have in a dumpster?

    Dumpster diving is so liberating!

Indeed dumpster diving is fun.... that is how i found the 6 foot big bird statue-thing I have sitting in my back yard. Had the damn thing back there for a year and one night there was a really bad lightning storm and he suddenly started talking (I'm no scientist, but maybe something jolted the batteries in him?!?).... he would say stuff like "How tall are you?" and "Will you be my friend?" when you walked in front of him...... I love him. He no logner talks though, batteries must be really dead this time :(

lol, someone once offered me $200 for it.... but I turned it down. Money comes and goes, but the love of a plastic big bird statue is forever!

It's ok, honey. I realise it's just a crush. I can't see the pic, btw.

/me secretly plans to serve "chicken" cacciatore at the next rally and wonders if it will seem suspicious when one chicken serves 98 people.

WoW is nowhere near as fun, lucrative and adventurous as dumpster diving.

TRUE dumpster diving is when the "owner" of the dumpster doesn't know you are diving......and you are looking for food!!

    Been there, done that

  16. We have this absolutely huge, heavy homemade bookcase that Schrike got dumpster diving. It is a little odd but there is something totally cool about it that I love!

Every May, I go dumpster diving at work after all the faculty and students have moved out of the dorms and apartments. Anything they don't have room in the car for gets left behind. I got a nice couch and chair a couple of years ago. The couch broke, but I still have the chair.

The students are always selling stuff for cheap the last week too because they don't have room for it. I bought my 36" Sony television from a student for $75 a few years ago because he didn't have room to bring it home with him. It was less than a year old, and probably cost him ten times that. :D

My husband says the best thing he ever found in a dumpster happened when he was 15. It was a book called Modern Sex Techniques.
