Fav spyware removal software

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Desperado, 9 Feb 2003.

  1. Subject says it all, what's your fav spyware removal software? I heard Ad-Aware quit updating their reference files so I was looking for something new to use to get rid of that b.s. that no matter how hard you try, you still get shoved onto your computer. :moon:

  2. A program called Ad-subtract, you can buy for 2o bucks at Best Buy or any office Superstore.

  3. Yes, I was preferably looking for something free or at least downloadable. ;)

  4. You can always download a spyware/virus ridden anti-spyware program off of a P2P client, or you can use a different web Broweser instead of IE. I use Opera, and i haven't formatted my computer in over a year, and i only had about 32 spyware programs (most of which came from when i was still using IE. Opera has this cool feature that makes it so only user-requested popups appear. This is very helpful becasue most spyware comes form popups, and most are designed to work with IE. Opera also has password storage, so that when you are at the login page you just click the "wand" button, adn it will automatically log you in. Plus you are able to store all your web windows inside the actual browser so it doesn't clutter your taskbar. Best of all it's free (unlimited trail) and you can continue at the pages from your last session so you don't need to reopen them everytime you shut off your computer.

  5. I must concur with Derfud that Opera seems to be a pretty smooth browser. I've only used it for about a week now, and its been very nice. Additionally, much less popup ads, although you can get and the tabbed browser pages with Netscape 7.01. I'm not sure if Netscape has a sessions feature like Opera does.

None of this, however, is directly related to spy-ware removal... so I'll shut up.

Good luck getting that crap off your system.

  6. I'm way too accustomed to MIE by now to switch, I actually like it, heh :) There are browser extensions like Crazy Browser(I think it's called) where you can tab your sites instead of having them pile up in the systray, seen it in action, pretty snazzy really but never bothered to mess with it.

  8. Yea that guy no doubt has made some niffty little programs, but their OptOut spyware removal hasn't been updated in nearly two years.

  9. Gonna go ahead and revive this as it was brought to my attention today that Ad-aware has come out with a new version they will updating again. Apparently they have several different flavors basically ranging from Free to Expensive, heh :D

You can get the free one: http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10186632.html?tag=lst-0-1
User reviews look a lot lower for the new version but I'm giving it a shot right now.
