  1. okay...so im finally able to buy myself some electronic toys...and im looking at a PDA

i have no clue as to specs (end user remember) so if i just tell you guys what i would like to be able to do...maybe you can tell me what i need hehe...

i would like to be able to surf the net..i.e check email and keep updated on the forums here(very important), i would like to be able to store info..maps, books(subway reading) and able to add to documents that i am writing...also able to have a gps thingy...color screen isn't that terribly important...but i think most of them are now...

anywho...any suggestions or comments would be appreciated...and remember to speak english...not dorkish or geekish because i just don't get it ;)

  2. I've recently been through some "Which PDA should I get" threads on other forums so maybe I can help out a bit.

Toshiba's line of Pocket PCs seem to stand out in the crowd as far as features.

The Toshiba e740 is their oldest X-Scale unit, but it still packs a punch, not to mention I found it here for under $200, built in Wireless Card, Compact Flash and Secure Digital expansion slots for whatever you want to add on (like that GPS).

Their current $399 e755 isn't really too much different from the e740 other than probably some slight hardware tweaks and updated software.

    On to Dell

I personally own a Dell Axim X5, it was only $199 when I bought it, and it's a thick brick of a PDA that serves it's job of holding my pirated ebooks for me to read at work. It's got the same expansion slots but it's slightly slower and has a bit less internal memory, it also doesn't have built in wireless like the Toshiba models.

The newer Dell X3i has built in wireless, but only a Secure Digital expansion slot. The slot is an I/O slot though so you should be able to hook up any SDIO accessories like a GPS.

    HP's Turn

HP seems to run the gamut of prices and features, but by far has the most expensive for the same features you could find in the others.

    Here's a List

People say their hardware is rock solid, but I always flinch when I see their prices, Pricewatch may turn up better deals for some of their older models though.

  4. Full Otto

    Full Otto Chain Gun Madman

I have an HP iPAQ. Work supplied. But for what you want to do, you need a laptop!

Browsing on one of these isn't great (Unless you get hamma to set the site to adjust to hand helds!) Checking mail is good, what we use ours for.

You can play some games on them or track star charts (what I do with mine besides mail)

I have the iPAQ 5550 (built in wireless, bluetooth support, etc)

  5. IMO, pocket PC's are a waste of money.

I would rather invest in a laptop, or one of those new fancy tablet pc's, even though I dont know anything about them
