Grand opening of food stores.

  1. remind me to never accept a job if the store hasn't had it's grand opening.

...and stay up to 1:30 in the morning on the day of the grand-opening.

Every single co-worker I talked with said they were sore/tired.

I started work today at 9 AM, thinking it was going to be a usual busy Saturday. By 9:30, there were more people in the store than at the height of a normal saturday rush.
By 11:00, I took a 20 minute break instead of 15 because at this point, there was roughly 3-4x the amount of people in the store compared to other saturdays. At one point, none of my co-workers could put stuff on the shelves because they couldn't get through the congestion of people.

Before I went for lunch, my boss said only a half-hour lunch max before going to work.

At this point, I saw my car in the parkinglot behind the store. I hitched a ride with 2 friends/co-workers, and the 3 of us went to a local chip-hut and ate.
When I returned, my car was gone. lol
It wasn't stolen.. my mother just came by and took it.

By 4:30, it had quieted down a lot, and my car was back in the parkinglot, so I took another 20 minute break, and finished the day about 30 minutes ago.

I swear, this day is forever scarred in my head as the most busiest day at work.

And now I'm tired. Someone wanna give me a massage? I could use one.

try working in a popular music store on Hampton Beach, NH during the 4th of July, Labor Day or the Seafood Festival. i remember pulling quite a few 14 hour days and maybe, if i'm lucky, one break. Oh yeah, not to be forgotten, it was generally 100 degrees inside when it was about 80 outside.

My most difficult times were in college. I commuted to school in Denton and worked in Dallas. Fortunately the restaurant I worked in was only open until midnight on the weekends and 11 on the weekdays. I would be so exausted at the end of the day. My feet, shoulders, back and arms would be aching, my hands would be swollen and sometimes bleeding form rope burns. I feel for you, Asmo. :)

Oh, ya, this is what I did in college:

I was a swinger. :) Paid for my apartment, my tuition and my car. Sometimes when I am trying to figure out something important or if I am going through something rough, I dream about being in that steakhouse and the managers, waitresses, kitchen guys all help me through it in my dream. Strange, huh?

  8. Greetings,

Half the sky...I can understand that you did hard work to achive your goals. I bartenended for a year and was a waiter for 3 years. It is very hard work.

I belive that everybody at sometime should do a short term stint of employment in the service industry so they can understand how hard it can be...

    Farewell....

    Wow!

I didn't know you did that Queen. Did you just swing there all day or did you wait tables and stuff too?

You guys are so funny. :)

I met my husband in college during the time when I worked in that restaurant, but he couldn't afford to eat there. I waited tables 2 nights per week and I was a swinger 3 nights per week. This was very good money for a part time job. Without this job I would not have been able to put myself through college.

Winter, I agree with you about working in the service industry. It's definitely a life experience that I value today.

I wouldn't be jelous if i had a gf and she did that. i would only get jelous if she started hanging out with the patrons after work.
