  1. Hail CDL!

I work with Manitou in the great RL, and he has been attempting to recruit me as a potential gamer (poor guy). I have read through your mission statements and some historical posts about game accomplishments, and I really like what CDL is about. I am posting here to express my direct interest in joining CDL as a casual, but loyal, gamer. I apologize up-front for the length of my application; my past experiences with roleplaying communities caused me to develop a habit of writing detailed self-introductions, leaving little to the imagination of the recruitment committee. Don't feel obligated to read the entire document if your eyes glaze over or you need to take a break and shave.

I am 24 years old, and throughout different stages of my life I have passed through various levels of immersion in the gaming world. I've played everything from Intellivision, Atari 2600, and Commodore 64 to my Wii, all things PC, and online Chess/Go. I have been in clans/guilds for QuakeWorld, Quake3, Rainbow Six, Asheron's Call, and World of Warcraft. I love games, and true to my Chinese Zodiac sign (I'm a dog), I am very loyal once I've committed to a task and I tend to work well with others. I also like true roleplaying and have played a few d20 systems and a World of Darkness setting.

I once was into games so heavily that I learned how to make them myself over the course of years of effort (such as getting my degree in Math). I have developed several small 3D applications for various companies in the last few years. I do not say all this to brag about myself, but to help everyone in CDL know me better in case I should end up being accepted, and to offer my potential services as a knowledgeable 3D technician capable of helping others solve issues with their games/rigs.

My most recent serious gaming commitment was to WoW, which I bought on release, played for around a year, and quit. I will never play WoW again, but I had some incredible experiences there with a great guild. If anybody is interested, my WoW guild was "Dark Hand of Chaos". True to my nature, I was only a member of that one guild, and I didn't believe in alts. I was the class leader in my guild for a time and a pseudo-officer, and I also ran the TeamSpeak server for a while. For some insight into my playing style, I like to employ offensive tactics primarily:

    • In WoW, I was an Undead Warlock that consistently ranked #2 in damage (right after the Fury Warrior) in raids, and thrashed the PVP arenas, back when locks were still gimped and I had to farm shards for ages just to PVP.
    • In military games like Rainbow Six, America's Army, BF 1942/2142, I play a sniper (if I can trust my team to fill the other roles well). I love the tactics of saving a shot for just the right moment.
    • In fast-pased shooters, I choose Quake3 rocket-launcher style weapons paired with railguns. I love the ability to predict enemy movements and juggle them between walls with rockets, or hitting them in the head with a surprise railgun shot as we both fly and spin through the air.

In my current stage of life, I am a business-oriented software developer with a strong focus on productivity. I will likely never again play a game as much as I played WoW; I have a great job and a great girlfriend, and I spend a chunk of time on my personal website (http://www.adamia.com/). I have a large number of side projects and hobbies, so I do not want to pretend that I would play 33 hours a week with CDL. However, I will also likely never quit playing games, and having a solid group of gamers to play with is the single most rewarding aspect of gaming for me. I am in the Lord of the Rings: Online private beta, and I created a toon on Meneldor per Manitou's advice. Currently, my gaming PC is offline, as my video card kicked the bucket and is in transit for an RMA, but I will hopefully be back in LOTRO before next weekend. LOTRO is the game I am specifically interested in playing with CDL at the moment. Thank you for your time (if you've survived this far into the post), and I hope to see you all in-game!

p.s.> I did not forget to explain what the name means; it's a greek word. I know, not very clever.

Hello Sunetos! A very detailed introduction post. One that is rarely seen around here. We usually get the, "Hey, some guy from your [insert game here] guild/outfit/clan just recruited me so I wanted to say hello" kind of posts. So it is deeply refreshing to see something like this.

I hope that we can provide for you a place you can call home in the dangerous Interweb. Hope to see you in-game sometime!
