I think my rig is currently set up for the game just fine. I may pick up a second EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Superclocked video card to go SLI and make all the juicy bits shine. But I was thinking of picking up a HOTAS setup. Perhaps something like the Saitek X52 Flight Control System. I think a HOTAS setup will be a good thing to have when flying around. Plus the added benefit of having a mouse-like control system on the throttle.

Is anyone else thinking of going this route? Or are you going to go with the old standard mouse/keyboard setup?

  2. I'll be going with a mouse and keyboard until I know that buying the really cool shit works the way it is supposed to.

    I'm still rocking an i5 2500 with a 560ti. Thinking about getting a 760 and using the 560 as a physx card.

  3. Well the game is built on the cryengine3 and you can find a laundry list of games built on it to get a good idea of a base hardware req. As far as other hardware I already own a joystick, but I am planning on getting the occulus when it goes full production for SC.

  4. I'm running 2x Gtx 670s SLI right now and I have a Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas X that I bought to use on PS2 when they swore they'd have proper joystick support. :\

I think Crysis 3 is probably your best benchmark for now.

P.S. My stick is decent and very cheap for a Hotas setup. Also, as a bonus for you Playstation 3 owners... it works out of the box with the PS3 or PC:

  5. I agree with Khorne; Crysis 3, most-likely, matches the minimum specs required to play the game, now that Crytek has hardcoded the engine to run on DX11 cards.

  6. I just refreshed my base components out of sheer boredom.

    Asus Z87 Sabertooth
    i7 4770K
    8GB Gskill DDR3 2400

Still got the 7970 I've had since they first came out, longest I've kept a video card in my main machine for a long time. Hoping there is a true next gen upgrade by the time SC comes out otherwise I'll be getting a 2nd for crossfire. What for? Thinking of ditching the 42" LED LCD and going triple monitor. I'd want 30" 2560x144 144hz screens though and doubting that will happen anytime soon.

Got an x52 setup about a year ago when it looked like the space mmo's were gonna be worth a damn and never happened so its been collecting dust ever since.

  7. HOTAS setup sounds great! Any opinions on some rudder pedals?

I probably won't go with the pedals.

  9. Cool, unfortunately that processor is only being made available right now for their "Quadro" rendering cards. Most likely it will be over a year before it works with gaming GPUs.

  10. "the module works with GPUs that have Kepler architecture (so the GTX 660 and up)"

    o_O

  11. Ok, but all the systems we use are laptops, and that's not likely to change for playing videogames. It will still be a while before an external device (similar to Creative's Recon 3D soundcard) will be available for those types of systems.

  12. This is just a add-on module monitor makers can add for not much to give you something close to what 120-144hz monitors do. Put one of these in a 1440P and I will be a happy man. Not sure if you will see it in laptops as much but maybe in high end gaming setups.

  13. Double post :( SO I will post this here then

  14. It does look nice, but I'm not considering a flight stick upgrade until I learn more about the dedicated unit CIG is creating for SC.

  15. I am meh on that, I am pretty confident it will just be a skinned HOTAS set up and I would kinda prefer to have something that is more universal anyways. But I know a few of you are waiting on that, but I figured I would post for general knowledge of a new product.

    Bumping this thread.
The Saitek X52 Flight Controller System I've had my eye on for the past few months is being sold (used) for around $70. Again, YMMV in regards to Amazon used sales, but I've had great luck so far getting bargain deals on good system parts.

  17. I have only ever been frauded once on it and Amazon is quick to pay you back what you lost if there is a problem.

Just got my X52 yesterday, trying to get the controls ironed out and everything tweaked. It has been a long time since I have used a HOTAS/Flight stick in games.
