Hehe, I kinda like these "Lone gunmen" conspiracy style stories..

This comes from a news program up here that does a segment with a website called disinformation. 50 Things you're not supposed to know.. Neat little facts anyway..

    Will launch a video player:
Police aren't obligated to protect you

Things you never really think about, and take for granted I guess :p

Obviously police DO protect you, but I found that interesting..

    Very true.

They are here to protect the general public, not individuals.

Sure, if they are right next to you when something happens, more than likely they will do what they can to protect you, but they are not LEGALLY required to do so.

An individual's personal protection is their responsibility.

As a side note. While watching the news yesterday about some shootings the night before that "had the whole Dayton Police Force occupied", one of the higher ups said that any call would have been responded to quickly, even while this was going on. The news reporter even stated "Dayton Police pride themselves on a 5 minute response time".

Sit here for 5 minutes. Imagine what could happen in the 5 minutes you are sitting here while waiting on this fast response time. And to be honest, a 5 minute response time is really fast.

And that is once you make the 911 call. How fast can you call 911 when an unimaginably stressful situation arises? And then explain calmly your situation? And where you are, what is happenning? And possibly trying to whisper this as to not draw attention?

Most criminals can clear a house (find any humans) in about a minute...two minutes tops.

Besides, you are asleep, you hear a noise, go to investigate. By that time, a one minute response time is too late.

Home invasion is even worse...they KNOW you are there, and are prepared to take you out.

Out on the streets, you have no time to call 911, as you are being accosted directly. I don't think the criminal will wait as you call, thinking "well, it will still take them at least five minutes to get here, I'll be done in a few seconds".

But in those few seconds, I have a chance to draw, and if things go well, for both parties, no shots fired.
