  1. Go look at your private messages!

  2. Was it as good for you, as it was for me? :D

  3. dunno, Maybe you can help him out, Hes getting UEs out the wazoooooo I found a place on Tribal War that had a solution for almost every type of UE.

    He had Win ME and got rid of it and now had XP and still T2 wont work I think its a hardware issue!

  4. You aren't running the 2Chat scripts or some shit like that, I for get the name. There is an autoupdate script that borked. Made me ue everytime I fired up tribes about 15 seconds in when the autoupdate tried to run.

    Mars clued me into that. All I did was delete that script and everything worked fine. Don't know if you have it or not, it used to be in the CDL base script pack.

  5. no scripts, nothing all raw fresh install!

    Hes gone thru first aid, this that etc......etc...........

    Tribal war had a good section I sent him a link to his email and ICQ but the bum dips in and out of chat too quick hes not a forum whore!

  6. Yeah it definately sounds like a hardware issue. Here is the first thing you should try:

    Copy clientprefs.cs to make a 2nd backup copy somehwere.
    Open clientprefs.cs.

    Find the following lines:

    $pref::Audio::activeDriver = "";
    $pref::Audio::drivers = "";
    $pref::Audio::provider = "";

    No matter what is in the "" in your file, delete it. Then mark your clientprefs.cs read only <-- This is an important step.

    Start up T2 and you should be running with no sound engine at all, meaning your sound card isn't even being accessed. Try playing T2 for a long time. If the problem goes away either your sound card or the sound card drivers are bad.

    NEXT.. If that didn't fix the issue:

    Restore clientprefs.cs from backup.
    Copy a new backup of clientprefs.cs.
    Open clientprefs.cs

    Find the lines:

    $pref::SkipIntro = "1";
    $pref::Video::fullScreen = "0";
    $pref::Video::resolution = "640 480 16";
    $pref::Video::safeModeOn = "1";

    ^ Change those lines in your clientprefs.cs to what they say above. Close clientprefs.cs and mark it as read only.

    Play for a while. This will be in 640x480 windowed mode at 16 bits. Basically the lowest possible drain on your video card. If you play great with no crashing, there is a video card/driver issue somewhere.

    Now if all this doesn't work once again restore clientprefs.cs from backup.. Then make a new backup. And in clientprefs.cs play around with these switches.

    $pref::Input::JoystickEnabled = "0";
    $pref::Input::KeyboardEnabled = "0";
    $pref::Input::MouseEnabled = "0";

    Remember to mark it "read only" after each change. I would test the joystick first, then the keyboard, and then the mouse. If you find that T2 works good with one of these disabled you know what hardware is causing the problems.

    Now you've tested the sound, video, keyboard, joystick and mouse.. If none of this produces the results I would have to say you either have a bad stick of ram and should try swapping them in/out.. Possibly a bad hard drive (run checkdsk for invalid clusters).. Or is your system overclocked? Could be causing the CPU to go funky.

  7. That's h0mi...I'll try that...

  8. i readed this thread :)

  9. Okay...did the test on the sound card and it crashed...
    Did the video card test and had success. Played three maps without crashing. So this is what I did. BTW, I prolly screwed up my whole computer cause I don't know what the hell I'm doing. =o

    Anyway, after I played 3 maps and felt comfortable that there were no UE's, should I replace my video card? Hope so cause that is what I did. I have a Radeon 7500 (64 meg) video card. Last night, after I ran the tests, I uninstalled it and replaced it with my old card GeForce II Mx. Thinking that would solve the problem. Doh ! Now the intro screen won't even load without a UE showing. Before I could at least go to chat or play 2 mins. Now, nada. I think I messed up again. :eek:

    So my question is this....what should I have done?

    a) Switched my video cards from Radeon to GeForce
    b) Suck it up and play minimized window
    c) Beat my computer senseless like "office space"
    d) Become an N'Sync Fan and forget about Tribes 2.

    Thx again for the help. :wb:

  10. So it crashes even with a different video card.. Have you tried any other heavy OpenGL game like Q3 or UT or whatever, to see how they run?

  11. Empire Earth, Counter Strike, Thief, Tribes I and II, Red Alert II. Those are the only games. I'm more confused now than before. :(

    BTW...cool mouse over sig h0mi. Every time my cursor scrolled over it, without me knowing at first, I kept hearing something weird.... then realized it was your sig. :p

  12. Oz if it worked put the old video back in and try it non windowed.

    Also the reason for why it might have crashed is cuzz the drivers for the radeon and the Gforce are probally conflicting when trying to access Open GL or D3D,

    From what I read you did it sounds like you got the Radeon to work windowed but the Gforce crapped Id put the Radeon back in.

    Or just flat out go buy an Geforce with an nividia chipset!

    Cheers KO :)

  13. Hey OS2 what OS are you using? Maybe you should install OS2 :)

    Meaning, a 2nd fresh 100% clean OS install (dual boot) and then try it on that..

  14. Okay, removed the GeForce II Mx and replaced with the Radeon 7500. I think , at least up to now, we've determined it is a video card issue. So what's next. I've got two video cards that are good, but can't use either one? h0mi....what's my next step Masta?

    Had WinME...bought the upgrade to XP. Hope that is a good move.

  15. Go get a Gforce Nividia Ti4400 128 meg card or a 64 meg card but make sure its a T-something, because as Mars once told me all Mx cards are basically glorified 3dfx.

    Cheers KO :D

  16. OS2.. Hmm it might not be the card itself it could be a host of issues. I would try, in this order:

    1) Research the best bios settings for the geforce card relating to your OS. Set them up, reboot. Try the game. Still bad?

    2) Install a fresh OS and fresh drivers. For nvidia try 23.11 version (you can find them on the net). I hear these are the most stable. Install the game fresh with fresh patch. Try it now. The reason you are doing it this way is a fresh OS will completely remove any old driver install bits & files that might be screwing up your current driver/card. Still bad?

    3) At this point you know the os, drivers and bios aren't to blame. It's possibly a hardware conflict (are your IRQ's conflicting?). Do you have a PCI card in the 1st slot directly under the AGP port?

    4) Install something like powerstrip or umm.. what is that other geforce tweak utility? Try to underclock your card meaning what is the mhz the card cpu and memory supposed to be running at? Drop that down by a number of clicks. See if it runs stable. If it does, you might be pushing your system too hard.

    Dunno besides all of that couldn't say what else to try.

  17. Wait .. you're running WinXP you said....

    Did you update your video drivers after installing WinXP?

    The stock video drivers that came with WinXP for all the Nvidia Chipsets don't work at all with Tribes2. You'll need to update them.

    Either go to the manufacturer's website of your card and Download the latest version, or get the latest Nvidia "reference" drivers from here ... http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows2000

    Btw. KO ... the GF2 MX is an Nvidia Chipset, it's the same as the regular Geforce2 .. it's just clocked at lower frequencies, i.e. it's slower. What you are thinking of is the Geforce4MX .. which isn't really a Geforce4 ... it's technologically equivalent to a Geforce2 .. meaning it doesn't have all the features of even the Geforce 3 .. letalone the GF4. Think of the GF4MX as a Gf2MX on Super Horse Steroids, and Speed.
