  1. Holiday Livestream - Live Blog
(Citizen Star News) - by Citizen Ed - 2014-12-19 - Live blogging, stay tuned for updates. Live on Twitch.

Mustang Commercial! Channeling Howard Hughes here. Reminds me of "The Aviator":

Pegasus Escort Carrier, formerly known as the Panther:

    Big news so far:

RSI Website revamp released before the stream.

Release of 1.0 today! Just after the livestream.

New Santa Monica offices! Signed a lease on a space that would allow more room and (performance capture & community team) studios.

Aaaand stream down... sure it will be back up soon. Back! had to reboot their router. Reminds me of a South park episode.

Talking to the Squadron 42 and the Foundry 42 team

Working on capital ships now and next year Idris and Javelin (+ Panther, Pegasus and Bengal) and a full Vanduul fleet.

Javelin was a lead ship for the Modular Hull work. Cutlass and Avenger are next with the modular work.

What is so important about Shubin base? 6 KM long base. New modular interior is helping create a huge map. 26 landing bays. Featured in the first Episode of SQ42 (due out near the end of next year most likely. -Ed.)

Pegasus Escort Carrier, new name for the Panther.

16 Hornets, 16 Gladiators Couple of Redeemers or Retaliators?

Pilots lounge, a small city in space, will be your home for a while in SQ42

    Ryan Church initial concept.

RSI chat is down... shocked... shocked I say!

Q: Has the Bengal increased in size? They'd like to. But not really... currently 1100m. (So yes? Last I heard it was 1km)

RSI Pegasus concepts... should be loaded onto the web server soon. Here!

Highlights the Level of Detail (LOD) challenges coming up for AC 2.0, multicrew and capitals.

Now looking at new art of the Idris interior and exterior. Available Here!

Has been made modular. Test case for a capital ship in engine.

Idris going into the store! 50 going up now and three more allotments, over the next 24 hours! Several were melted for the Javelin so they are comfortable putting some more out there.

Moon Collider speaking on the subtleties of the upcoming AI. FPS lean out of cover. Trying to make them seem like "real opponents". In space working with signatures and the detection system, getting the behavior to reflect that.

Vanduul Swarm is now 18 levels. New behaviors.

In the coming year there will be new AI driven scenarios in the AC. Using it as a test bed for this kind of behavior.

In the PU some of the AI is high-level. Dealing with NPC goals. "Passive AI" they are calling it. NPC wakes up in the morning and figures out what am I going today? So when you walk through landing zones, you see people moving around you doing their jobs and errands like in the real world. Excited that the peaceful behaviors and combat are being built together as part of one holistic system. We'll be seeing this in the Planetside/Social Module.

Live match, showing off the Lobby system. Sending invites before the match. Some tech difficulties. Chris has been short-sheeted. Erin has a superhornet. Chris chooses an Avenger, and xbox controller? Says it's better than the T-Flight that's available. His X-55 is still up on his desk I guess. Says the new build will be a bit better because it has "his changes". Erin unable to load. Avenger Radar and display is pretty different. Impressive visibility. Collision... "Crash" Roberts.

Pilot breathing sounds are giving folks "Gravity" flashbacks.

Avenger not set up to eject in this build.

Team LA won, inspite Chris' six deaths. Highlight evading missiles in the asteroid field.

Back to the Lobby after the match! Not the Hangar! Hallelujah!

Goodbye to UK and Hello to Austin, TX team: Tony Zurovec, Rob Irving, Mark Skelton, and many more.

Austin is focusing on PU and DevOps, LiveOps.

Talking about the social/planetside module that we'll see soonish.

Start at least with ArcCorp: 6 shops, bar. Can window shop but not buy in the first drop. Get a feel for the transactions.

Local grid in progress, hope to get working in January. Transition between cities into orbit. Quantum travel (aka Fast travel) in system will be dealt with a bit later (Jan?).

Mission creation system. Long term objective, very designer driven "modules". Threads linkages to other nodes ... maintain continuity. Pirate, Rescue missions. Initial occupations mining, exploration, bounty hunting, mercenary, transport, escort, space taxis, cargo transports, couriers.

Mark Skelton starting to talk about organizing the assets. And concept pipeline. Keeping ahead of things. "Tier" system, rulesets. Reutilize the assets across studios.

Terra Prime, another major landing zone. An experiment on making that very different. Low-Tech, High-Tech and Super-modernism. Terra Prime is like the R&Y of landing zones. Tried to push that style as far as they could. Unlike ArcCorp that is "confined". Terra is more expansive visually. "Super open." Terra Tower, Dubai-like. Manhattan meets Rio. Near shanty towns around the edges.

Nyx, third system... abandoned mine taken over by fringe groups and pirates. In an asteroid.

Each location is supposed to have an iconic thing you can use to place yourself. Nyx has habitations in the walls. Been mining for years. Very different. Aiming to keep at least the first set of landing environments very different.

Off the beaten path can be a bit scary. Not a whole lot of security.

Q: Character customization system: UK has taken point on that. Used in SQ42. Do talk about layers of clothing. Mark Skelton is involved from the clothing design side. Was working on "sets", but it's moving toward more components. Mix and match. Issues to do with mismatched... collars vs backpacks, etc. Planning to have two layers of clothing: Shirt layer, jacket/vest. Ideas are still clearly working through. UK is planning to have this locked down around march. FPS concerns about how you interact with your clothes and gear.

Cargo pants very useful... almost took over. cargo pant centric, but fixed.

Q: Where are the asteroid hangars going to be located? Asteroids are all over the place, but Nyx is an initial location.

Solar system will be littered with interesting places to go. But much of it will have to be "discovered" by explorers.

You can die exploring... for example comet outgassing. Mining could accidently cause explosions for various reasons.

Marianna and Odyssa - Other landing zones in design.

Economics of the city drives the appearance. Can visit a city and looks great, but could come back a month later and find the place has gone to hell. Driven by economics, boom/bust cycle.

A future AtV will be in Austin. Looking forward to it.

    Next up ... Behavior!

Do all the graphic assets for what TonyZ is working on. Mobiglas. Lobby interface. 890 Jump Concept artist.

Mobiglas - Determining the style is going to be animations, and how the players going to interacting. Home screen, augmented reality, contact list, shopping.

Built all the new Hangars. Can we clean up the Asteroid Hangar? Do hope that hangar customizations are enabled soon. Hopefully room customization and move things around. Fix broken monitors. A testiment to how people think of the Hangars as their home already.

Short talk about the landing zones. And staffing.

Holiday greetings: Please use licquer cabinet with moderation! And don't drive the buggy afterwards!

Ship Design Team, back to LA

    Spacewhale confirmed.

Discussing all the work in the last weeks.

Sounds like a difficult dev process. Things going wrong all them time in merges.

    Multi-crew big fixes.

Vanduul ships, Scythe to be flyable.

Concept artists... New office showroom. Scifi porsche showroom.

Bulldog concept next. Quite a few ships lined up.

Zane ... diagetic dispays... HUDS.. etc. Next year digging into the diverse interfaces for the different ships and manufacturers. Alien interfaces.

Signatures, very interesting. Chaff, noise, cross sections. Missile types. There is some interesting info on how armor can change your emissions. Upcoming Comm-Link about it.

    Illfonic up next, SCFPS

Interesting have a bit of their own lingo, "chocolate and peanut butter situation (heh haven't used that in years)" Action Jackson.

Recently working on: Moving around with handholds, Zero-G

CR enters, mentions that they were doing motion capture for zero-g with wire rigging.

New animation director, hired from CryTek in Germany.

Cover system. Destructible cover. Procedural based cover. First cover system was a bit grabby. New system never locks you. Should work with zero g naturally as well.

    Prone... crawl spaces.

Shooting at Imaginarium... or wherever they are shooting that.

Animation states, shot in leg, have to limp, etc.

Stealth elements, tactics. Physics improvements for natural movement, all works together all inside one big first person simulated universe.

FPS is first up, they expect it to be the next module released next year.

    Turbulent

... but first a contest. Will be a forums thread to allow people to propose futuristic Holidays. Winners get signed Connie models. Here!

Turbulent works on the website, including store & org system. New contact system, which will be an important part of the Lobby system.

Websight redesign deployed this morning. New UI ideas. PTU, testing platform. New archetecture allows them to feature videos. New Header and footer for more streamlined messaging. About the game section, be able to talk to the potential and new backers better.

First step in new design. Front page designed for new backers, there will be a new community hub meant for existing backers. Feature community contributions and news.

    Star Map, progress. Show us:

WebGL StarMap. Display shown doesn't have the right positions, yet. Sectors, groups of star systems. The protype allows to zoom into a planetary level. Web starmap will be encyclopedic, macro info. In game will be more real time.

Notably, Chris hadn't seen the planetary stuff yet. Was surprised and impressed.

Orgs - Public and Private forums. More communication tools.

They are developing their own forums for this, eventually dumping Vanilla Forums. Community is front and center. Building tools for the community is a major part of what they are doing.

PTU - Going forward will allow them to test more organized fashion, while keeping a stable version.

Bug reporting is another toolset that they are working on.
