Home Automation

  1. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm an extremely computer/electronic minded person and have been looking at the X10 series of products because I don't have to tear my house apart for it to work. Any other solutions out there that are better?

  2. I've used X10 stuff for years. Very cool products. I even have the computer interface in addition to manual controllers (both wired and wireless). There are severals software packages where you can automate lights, windows shades, thermostats, and appliances. I think they have a website at www.x10.com also where you can see a variety of X10 devices.

  3. Ya, I have mentally planned out this awesome X10 system including a garage door control and some other stuff, maybe throw my sprinkler on there once I figure out how it works. Overall X10 looks to have an aweseme price:feature ratio. I was gonna get thet $100 starter kit then build up slowly. I found an X10 compatible thermostat for like 250 bucks, but I haven't looked very hard and I'm sure I can get one cheaper. Overall I'm really excited about the possibilities with this stuff, especially with my Anakin like knack for electronics/computers.
