I had to share this. My buddy had me try out his copy of GTA:SA because his xbox refuses to play it.

Which is funny. His totally legal xbox refuses, my hacked-12-ways-to-Sunday box plays it just fine.

So I had to shoot him an email this morning to let him know how it worked. I thought I would share it.

Suddenly that scene in Resident Evil: Apocalypse where the cab driver is running over zombies while yelling "GTA MOTHER F'ER" is a lot funnier.

Worked fine for me. I and the 'homies' in my crew spent a quiet evening capping 'suckas' and 'tagging the hood'. Good fun was had by all.

It took a long time to load, but I put that down to the game size.

  2. The reason why it doesn't work on his console could be attributed to several factors:

    - Ditry laser lens
    - CD drive is going out
    - XBox (like Sony PS2) has several manufacturers for the CD drive unit. One brand in particular has known issues with some games. It's not the game themselves, but rather the CD/DVD the game is printed on. Replacement of the CD drive unit is difficult for the non-modder and voids the warranty unless said user requests warranty repair (with a valid reason).
    - Bad disc (though this is not the case with this particular situation since it works on your drive)

The bad drive Vong is referring to is the one where the tray hole is shaped like a bullet hole. There is a way to tweak the laser reading, but it involves you opening up your Xbox and fiddling with a potentiometer while reading the resistance on a multimeter. If you google it you should be able to find the fix.

Or I could just go over and 'bless' his machine. Pretty funny when you hack a machine to get a legit game to run.
