Ok I forgot, what is the name of the place that Frodo, Gandalf, and Bilbo go to at the end where all the gods live? Also, why does Frodo decide to go there?

  2. The place the sail to at the end is Valinor. It is where most of the High elves and the "gods" live. Frodo goes because he was too weary from his injuries and the after effects of the Ring and he is promised healing and peace in the West.

    Yes, I AM a Tolkien geek. :p

  5. i thought it was 'cause he had gone thru so much while having the ring that there was nothing left in the shire for him....but i never read the books...and im sure there were a few things that the movie sacrificed...

  7. geek!!! you posted before me!!! :p
Im just a slow tolkien geek :\

Oh and test your 1/2 right. there is nothing left for frodo in the shire because he had been through so much and was so scar'd from the ring that he could live with it anymore. So he was offered a spot on the ship because of such.

I have a feeling I missed something really really good at the rally

  9. im not speaking to you ever again ;)

  10. I believe that Frodo went to the Gray Havens because he felt like he no longer belonged in the Shire, nor did he feel that belonged around other hobbits...too much had changed for him.

  11. Frodo - and Bilbo - were allowed passage to Valinor, in part at least due to their "service" to the free peoples in carrying the one ring. Another part of Frodo's motivation in leaving, if you read the books and remember, is that he was never quite as much a part of the Shire as most hobbits. In the period between when Bilbo leaves the Shire and when Frodo, Merry, Pippin, and Sam set out - during which 20 years passed- Frodo was frequently away. He could speak both Sindarin and Quenyan - the languages of the Elves - and was accounted an Elf-friend; something uncommon. A big part of his leaving was due to his experience during the War of the Ring, and how it affected him, but he was already something of a dreamer or "free spirit" and was always interested in far away lands. More so than other hobbits, who were typically content to never leave their home, his personality predisposed him towards leaving the Shire.

Excellent, thank you very much! For the next question, are the ringwraiths the fallen Men who were given the rings for the race of Men, and now serve Sauron?

  13. Yes there were 9 Mortal Men that were initially given the Rings and eventually succumbed to the power of Sauron and until the One was destroyed searched for it to return it to him.

All totalled there were 9 rings given to Men, 7 rings given to the Dwarves and 3 rings given to the Elves (Galadriel had one which you can see her wearing in the movies in her allbeit brief scenes).

  14. okay...why would they give 9!! to man...i mean really the elves are far more responsible...how come they only got three?

and whatever happend to the other rings...the ones the dwarves had? where are they...and btw..how come they don't help out with this little adventure? the caves that they went into to pass thru...was that like ALL the dwarves and were they destroyed? im gonna have to read the books aren't i? hrrmm....aha....books on tape!!!

  15. couple things here. these rings were given to them all with the power to govern their kind. Elves are very...well how to put this......strick living. they arent' hard to govern so they need less rings and also have less leaders due to less segrigation. There were 9 kings of men at that point so they all got rings to help govern. And about the dwarves...dwarves are their own demise. They get themselves pwned due to greed of mining. And the guy that does the tapes are quite boring but I could stand to have them read to me once by him.

  16. so what happend to the dwarves rings then? did the big eye have those already? and how come mans rings were more powerful or whatever...? was the eye afraid of the elves..i mean...wouldn't three be easier to gather up than 9?

  17. He wasn't really looking for the rest of the rings just the "One Ring" I don't think it mentions much about the 7 rings of the dwarf lords but greed and lust for power is what overcame and changed the men into the Naz'gul and an eternity of servitude to the one ring.

  18. ....it didn't really happen :p

  19. how do you know....were you alive in the 3rd age of man? didn't think so :p
