    Needless to say, I'm hooked! I just finished Dragonsblood on audio cd and it was good. Books rarely move me to have any feelings to the charaters, but this one was like a roller coaster for me. Since I've got more time to listen to a book then I do have to sit down and read one, I'd like to get them on CD. So I looked at Amazon.com to see how many other books are on cd. Sadly as far as I could see there, only Dragonsblood is in cd format, while the audio book store I have a rental membership with, has Dragon's Kin on CDs also.

    So, does anyone know how many of the Pern books are in CD format?

    While we're at it, how about tossing a few links out there too! /beg ;D

  2. I'm not sure how many Pern books there are on CD....

    But beware, the Pern universe is EXPANSIVE
    bigger than the Dune universe (as in terms of how many series of books there are).

    Got this info off wikipedia for ya, and just FYI --- it's actually out of date. There are (I think) 2 more series of books by Anne that are not mentioned, plus books by other authors.

    The series of novels (arranged in chronological order) is:

    First Pass

    * Dragonsdawn (1988)
    * The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall (1993, anthology)
    o The Survey: P.E.R.N.
    o The Dolphins' Bell
    o The Ford of Red Hanrahan
    o The Second Weyr
    o Rescue Run
    * Dragonsblood (2005, by Todd McCaffrey) (some events)

    Second Pass

    * Red Star Rising (1996) (called Dragon's Eye for US release)
    * Dragon's Kin (2004, with Todd McCaffrey)

    Second Interval/Third Pass

    * Dragonsblood (2005, by Todd McCaffrey) (majority of events)

    Sixth Pass

    * Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern (1983)
    * Nerilka's Story (1986)

    Ninth Pass

    * Masterharper of Pern (1998)
    * Dragonflight (1968, first novel written)
    * Dragonquest (1970)
    * Dragonsong (1976)
    * Dragonsinger (1977)
    * Dragondrums (1979)
    * The White Dragon (1978)
    * Renegades of Pern (1989)
    * All the Weyrs of Pern (1991)
    * The Dolphins of Pern (1994)
    * The Skies of Pern (2001)

    Chronology is inexact, as some books take place at the same time. For example, Dragonsong, Dragonsinger and Dragondrums occupy roughly the same timeframe as Dragonquest and all are continued in The White Dragon. Similarly, Moreta, Nerilka's Story and the short story Beyond Between all take place concurrently or overlap. As well, Dragonsblood describes events in two separate time periods: the end of the first pass and the beginning of the third pass.

    Short stories include:

    * The Smallest Dragonboy (1973)
    * The Girl Who Heard Dragons (1994)
    * Runner of Pern (1999)
    * Ever the Twain (2002)
    * Beyond Between (2003)

    The first appearance of the Dragonriders was in a novella entitled Weyr Search, published in 1967. This story later became the first part of Dragonflight, the first novel published. Another novella, Dragonrider was published later the same year. Weyr Search won a Hugo Award and Dragonrider won a Nebula Award. Dragonquest,The White Dragon, Moreta:Dragonlady of Pern and All the Weyrs of Pern were all nominated for Hugos.

    LOL! Working 12 hours a day and spending at least 2 hours driving between there and home doesn't leave much time for anything other then sleep. ;D

    I used to listen to books on tape while working too Orange. I even have all three Star Wars radio dramas on tape. I used to listen to all of those during my 10 hour shifts. They were awesome!

    I'm trying to find good software that would import the tapes onto my hard drive so I could put them onto CD. If anyone knows a way or knows the software I should get, please let me know. The tapes are well over 15 years old right now and I would like to have them around for my daughter to listen to.

    I've been thinking about getting this tape deck since I've got a stack of tapes that I'd like to not have to re-buy as a cd. Maybe it's something you might think about too?
