Ok, so my little supplementary computer died.. It was always nice to have a second machine to use TS on and look up something in the middle of a game etc etc.. Now it wont boot up, no post screen, nothing.. I'm assuming either my chip or Mainboard died, I'm not sure.

I haven't bought anything yet, but I was considering replacing the MB (shuttle socket A case), and possibly the chip with a cheap Semperon, as its nearly impossible to find a new socket A chip around here anymore. That said, I've got 266mhz RAM, and almost every MB and barebones case I see has 333/400mhz buses.

With the exception of the fact that RAM timing could be a bit different (i.e. not high performance or anything like that), is there any reason a new 333/400 board wont take 266 mhz RAM?

This is also assuming the board/chip is my problem and not the RAM, in the first place. Though I think if it was the RAM I'd still see the computer attempt to boot up. At this point I get a whole lot of nothing, aside from my power and HD led's lighting up as it tries to boot and goes nowhere.

    thoughts?

  3. Some chipsets are finikiy but one thing to check for sure is the Voltage of the new chipset and your old to make sure its atleast adjustable if not the same.
