MxO

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Keaoi, 15 Feb 2005.

  1. Just curious what CDL's position on MxO was. I am personally drooling in anticipation over it, as the combat (PvP and PvE) is very orginal for not only a RPG, but an MMO as well.

Of course I will update everyone here as I play the game, via screenshots, reviews, and personal expeience, but I'd like to see a CDL division develop within this game. As for what I know, "guilds" are composed of two types. Crews and Factions. Crews can only be made of 12 members, while factions are limitless.

I really like this "Squad > Platoon" approach, as it allows an officer of the CDL to take on his own command, allowing a more focused leadership. I'm really excited to see a CDL movement in this game.

  2. Have they removed the NDA yet?

Haven't checked much into this since WoW started.

  3. not yet, and i imagine that it will be in place for at least the remainder of the month.

However, of of the thread's at the OF talked alot about the non-linear combat system. For example, in WoW of FFXI, people start an auto attack, then when an ability is ready, or your TP% bar fills, you use a special ability. In Mxo, you select from an array of abilities to use, which is then compared to your opponents selected move. The winner counters, or strikes beforehand.

Also, as like WoW, only certain abilites can be used at certain times. Like Akido for example, will knock your enemy off-balance, opening up a throw, while Kung-Fu's speed can daze an enemy, opening up a combo attack. Karate is all power based. And that is only 50% of the things available to you, in a single branch. You can mix abilities, where an Akido Grandmaster will destroy you in a Akido style duel, but throw in some guns and anything could happen. (Dual SMG Bullet time action anyone?)

I'm going for the Grandmaster Akido myself, simply because I know Akido, and it would be really awesome to see the video game conversion of a martial art style i know fairly well.

The NDA was lifted yesterday and they are planning on having another stress test/open beta in early march. The launch date for retail is March 22 in the US and April 8 in Europe.
