I only recently realized how purchasing multiple packages is going to work. Basically each package provides you with a character slot. You can create, name, and customize all of these characters and even name one as the heir of another in case of death.

What really got my wheels turning is when I realized that instead of hiring someone to man my turret in my Freelancer I can buy my own co-pilot and tour the universe fighting crime like an interstellar buddy cop film.

Since you have to have a second package for this the lower priced ships give you the most bang for your buck, so I may pick up an Aurora LN which ,as the only ship in the game with 4 class 1 hardpoints, I expect to end up as a very underrated little fighter. At $45 for the package and ship I think it's a great value if you want a second character slot.
