  1. Just an FYI to everyone.

I will not be on IRC during the week, and if, by chance, you do see me on during the week, ignore it.

Because of my current job, I'm having a tremendous amount of trouble maintaining my own sanity (including battling extreme bouts of depression, anxiety, and another issues in relation to working night shifts). I will be on during weekends only, and even then if you manage to see me, ignore me.

Manitou, I also regret to inform you that I will not be coming down this summer. I don't think my mental health could handle it.

    Peace all.

    Asmo.

  2. :(

Dude, that sucks! Feel better, maybe take a vacation? :hi:

Hang in there bro. I will keep the hope flying as a banner in the raging storm. I know you fairly well, and I know your strengths to an extent; you will find a way through this, and in doing so, you will be even the stronger.

I think you need to quit that job and move on to something better.

    :(

  5. I can't MTX.
I need the money to afford school, books, parking, etc.

I look at it as: a little trouble now, a lot less trouble later.

Is it hard to get a job in Canada?

Just let your family know how much pressure the job is putting on you and ask them to support you for a while so you can find another job.

    OR

Try to find another job in your off time. It's summer here so school is out. Isn't it the same there?

  7. I can't do that bro. It's not "hard" per-say to find a job.. it's just finding the right job for you. What I'm doing right now is guarding a construction site from Monday night to friday morning, working from 1800-0600. That's 48 hours a week. Space that out into a 'normal' work week, and that's 6 days instead of 5. Sure, it sounds easy, but when you dig deep, it's 1) destroying my natural sleep pattern, 2) making my weekends extremely shitty (all my friends end up going to sleep before I even start to get a little drowsy) and 3) I'm not eatting right/ working out properly anymore.

Not to mention I backed out of a camping trip for july 4-6th that I planned. I don't see the point of me going. All my friends are worried about me. My girlfriend woke me up at 10:30 this morning (I had been asleep for 3.5 hrs) and I couldn't fall back asleep until around 12, and had to be up for a little before 2 today so that I could talk with the bank. This is what usually happens once a week. Someone wakes me up half-way through my sleep, and the rest of my sleep is toast. :/

You know what it's like to be awake when the sun goes down, and there again when it comes up 7 hrs later? Not to mention the fact that from Monday-Friday morning my life revolves around work. Monday - goto work, come home, sleep, wake up, shower, eat, check mail, goto work. Repeat x4 and you have my life.

That's the inside scoop on my life.

  8. Friend of mine is working the night shift at Bud.

Cept he works ever other weekend as well. So basically he works every night for two weeks before he has a day off.

Took him a bit to get adjusted but he's doing fine now. He gets annoyed if I call him during the day.

Here a hint, turn your phone off :p And tell your friends not to bug you until a certain time. You are just sleeping backwards, it'll all work out.

But like MTX said, if its that horrid and destroying your life....get a different job.

"I can't do that bro. It's not "hard" per-say to find a job.. it's just finding the right job for you."

Well shit, this is obviously not the right job for you and yet your doing it.

Hang in there bud, it'll get better. If it doesn't, you're going to have to find some way to make it better.

<3 Asmo. You'll get through this. You're young! Can you have a dog with you when you guard? That might help cheer you up a bit.

  10. Hang in there Asmo! It will only make you stronger both mentally and physically. If you can't get a dog, just start singing to yourself. Sing happy melodys. Mr. Rodgers always comes to mind when you want to make yourself happy. Just starting singing its a beautiful day in the neighborhood! :p

Stick in there Asmo, My thoughts are with ya!

Might ask Schrike for advice. He's worked nights for years and seems to handle it ok. He might be able to give you some pointers on how to adjust to it.

    Just a thought.

I personally don't know what it's like but my father does. He worked swing shift at a rubber mill for 17 years. I remember it was like hell of earth if us kids woke him up in the day when he was trying to sleep. :)

  13. Ok, I forgot to leave out one tiny detail.

Most of you guys are talking about working the night shift with someone else.

    I am not.

I work alone, on a (roughly) 6 acre construction site with houses.

My forms of entertainment usually include the tv, radio, and a book, or a combonation of them.

This, is the reason for most of my troubles. I don't even get to confer with fellow employee's. :/

thank you all for your kind words.. I was never looking for sympathy, was just stating my current events.

Asmo needs a guard dog to train. <3

Shads, what kind of guard puppies do you have there?

Sounds like you need a gameboy advanced. I hear playstation is producing a badass handheld soon enough. Or maybe a cell phone and you could also work for crank yankers. :D

Whatever you do don't forget to get back up. The more you drag your ass now the harder it will be to stand later. If you never give up and never surrender you will win. :D

  16. I worked nights for almost 9 years. Its hard. The hardest thing to deal with is no social life. I made a ton of money and got some cool stuff but I won't do it again. At the time it seemed to work.

    Asmo,

Dude, I'm right here. If anyone knows what it's like to work a weekend shift, it's me, and you know it. This is the lot we've chosen for ourselves and the one thing that gets me through it is the fact that what I'm doing right now will better my future. There are always opportunities in hell. You just have to know where to look for them.

Use the time to your advantage. If you're interested in going back to school, read up on some stuff. Hell, buy a book and learn A+ Certification. That's a nice way to start your career on a different path. If computers aren't your thing, use the time to learn a different trade. It's what I'm doing on my down times here. I'm learning my N+ and going for my CCNA soon as well. It helps I have a degree in Computer Networking though :).

The next month I'm going to be away from IRC while at work. My month rotation is now up and I'm stuck in the Dept. of Motor Vehicles console. I've got to be at it 24/7 doing nothing but looking at code. Think of the matrix....yup, that's me. But Asmo, drop me an e-mail or PM and lets set up a time to talk during the week if you need it.

Remember the mucho machismo man <3 is for all involved :)

  18. Sentrosi, I'm still -in- school....

The only reason I'm pluggin it out, is because it's somewhat related to my field... I'm in a program called Police Foundations (therefore, I'm going to be picked up by a policing service) and become a cop. I'm doing security during the summer, and unfortuantely for me, I'm all by myself in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere..

I'm going to be picking up a laptop for work fairly soon though, so I'll be able to do a lot of reading online, and talking with the folks (sometimes) or even play a game or two. Once I have the laptop, things will change for me. (for the better) and I won't be quite as... um.. 'depressive'.

thx for everyone's vote of confidence though.. :)
