Next Great Starship - Treadmill (Submission)

Discussion in 'Star Citizen Public Discussion' started by Hyncharas, 23 Oct 2013.

  1. I've been working on an idea on-paper for the starship I hope to build during the contest; however, since members of my team co-developing our game are taking a hiatus, I know a couple of people here are modelers, so I’m offering them the choice to join the project if they’re not busy.

My starship proposal, the "Treadmill", currently has 5 starting configurations (like what’s done with the Aurora), but players will be able to purchase their own spec through five distinct hub-types they can mix and match according to their specific needs. One of these is also a Military hub, each of which will support higher-tier Hardpoints, up to 3 Hornet-variants and up to six crewmembers to fly them...

I have been writing a preliminary document to help with designing the ship, based on specs found on the website. Let me know if you want it hosted.

  2. So here's what I have so far for my Treadmill starship idea. I do realise some have returned to college/uni, but if you are doing 3d work, you could argue you are joining the competition and lecturers might give you some latitude:

I'm stumped about a weapon design, so we can't enter unless we have something modelled and textured based on their entry specifications, though that's not too hard as a group.

    I love it Hynch!

  4. Looks cool and I wish you the best of luck, I know that according to Chris Roberts large ships are very costly to design in both money and time.

  5. Looks good Hync. Wish I could help, but Im no good to ya. Best of luck my friend.

  6. I still plan to enter, but like a lot of applicants/teams, their requirements for the preliminary phase sound odd - a gatling cannon that works and feels like Xi'An technology which, by the way, have vessels nothing like the weapon they want people to build!

I think it was a druken stupor that led to the creation of their entry challenge.

  7. Made a few changes to the document; mostly housekeeping in regards to the crew capacity due to its size and use of hardpoints whilst in combat.

When I have the first conceptual art, I'll replace the existing version on my FTP.

  8. Since clarification for what CIG wants from people is practically nonexistent (unless on a user-by-user basis), I've asked a couple of questions in regards to submissions I started really late...

Hopefully they'll let people be accepted if they have one textured and animated model, even though it sounds as if they are asking for three

  9. Your best bet is to submit a ticket, they will get back to you in under 48 hours, and if some of the concierges around here are nice they can submit a question for you and get a quicker answer.

I have asked them the most mundane questions at times and they are always quick to get back to me with an answer.

  10. Yeah I did email support about it...

Depending on responses later today, the team could be me, a concept artist and someone from Black Widow Company.

  11. That explains your comment about allying with them :D Let me know how it goes, I am not opposed to approaching them, just not right at this moment in time :)

  12. No, that's fine.

It's just he is a fellow 3d artist looking to enter as well, so it seemed the most logical step to ask him if he didn't mind teaming up.

  13. Though I will be building a weapon design, I've decided not to take part in the competition in favour of seeing if I can get employed at the company.

It also turns out there are now TWO positions for Environment Artist... one is for either US studio, whilst another has appeared for Cloud Imperium UK that finally has an address. It's not technically Manchester, but instead due south on the city-limits :)

  14. Good luck! That would be a pretty sweet gig.

  15. Following my decision not to put my ship into the contest, this week I posted what I've written into a thread on CIG's "Game Ideas" subforum:

    https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/109017/coregeneering-module

The ship is now called the "Carriage", whilst a number of changes have been made. As expected, typical "that's not in the game" flaming started almost immediately, because some people simply can't abide it when any thread doesn't have everything worked out from the beginning... bloody community know-it-alls.

Anyway, at the moment I'm sorting out the Nodes for its production process, as well as the size and designs for the ship. Anybody who wants to help out, let me know.
