I know we've got a couple of Dragonwolves who are Sabres fans. This must have been a very scary sight to see.

As a former player I had a few close calls. But nothing can compare the dread I felt when I saw his skate come up.

  2. Wow. Thats all that can really be said.

  3. Happened to malarchuk about 19 years ago too. Guy crashed his net (he was a goalie) and he took a cut to the throat as well. Just as deadly.
There have been some notable incidents when players have taken pucks to the throat as well. Scary stuff.

  4. There were about 10 of us...all family that just finished our weekly dinner at my parents house, when we sat down to catch the third period. This town is like Canada in it's thirst for hockey...so not many games are missed - ever.

    I almost wished we hadn't.

It was the scariest thing to witness since Buffalo Bills Kevin Everett almost 5 months to the day and Keith Malarchuk in '88-'89.

Buffalo may not be known for winning championships...but if you do happen to get critically injured - make sure it's in Buffalo!

The sound of Jeannerette's (Buffalo Sabre announcer) voice as he was shockingly trying to describe what he was seeing to the camera shot of the 100 foot trail of blood against the ice will live with me forever.

The absolute relief though when they announced he was in stable condition and on his way to the hospital. We all thought Richard was a goner.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Richard Zednik and family...his season is over but I hope he is able to overcome the emotional turmoil of the injury and get back to playing hockey.

Zednik will be released from Buffalo General in 48 to 72 hours.
