As most of you know, I am a HUGE fan of Terry Goodkind. His one and only work so far is the Sword of Truth series. It's the prototypical boy meets girl, boy finds out girl is powerful, boy finds out that he's powerful, boy and girl think they can't be together then find out they can, boy finds out father is an evil man, boy kills father, boy becomes a man, etc etc. You get the idea.

Anyway, I know I've turned a few people onto this series and I keep getting asked when the next book will come out. The following is taken directly from Terry Goodkinds own website:
If you haven't picked up Wizards First Rule yet, I suggest you do. It is an excellent read. I am very excited about knowing that the next three books will bring an end to this compelling storyline. I think I will shed a tear once I finish reading the last book in the Chainfire trilogy. Richard and Kahlan have been with me since I met my wife. It'd be like saying goodbye to Frodo and Gandalf after all their adventures.

I haven't read Terry Goodkind... I'll have to look it up...

You may have read Fred Saberhagen or Micheal Moorecock... Great series of books there. Most likely along the same lines...

  3. Manitou

    Manitou Old War Horse DragonWolf

The SOT series is good reading.

  4. Great series... already read through it twice. =P

Yes, Michael Moorcock is an awesome author too. Credited as the 'inventor' of the whole Multiverse theory he offers a fresh perspective. Hawkmoon, Elric, Corum, Capt. Barstable, Erikose, et al are great books.

  6. Thank the gods! Now, if we can only get Robert Jordon off his arse and get the next book out.

*L* I read up to book 5 and stopped that series. I'll wait til it's all out before getting back into it. I do see a lot of parallels though between the two authors, and others echo that sentiment.

  8. Anyone ever read any Terry Pratchett? He's a genius.

  9. no kidding...i started the series a few months ago...now i have people telling me there IS NO END!!!

  10. ORANGE

    ORANGE DragonWolf

    lol :)

I'll just stick to my Orson Scott Card thx much

  11. Ill agree to that, he slays me everytime I pick up one of his. OOT!

  12. Yup, I stumbled across Jordan a while back, and with my voracious appetite, quickly caught up with him, and have now been cursing his name for about a year and a half!

  13. Goodkin needs to write his books with the assumption people have read the previous ones, he could probably shave a good 100 pages off his books by eliminating all the redundant crap that just restates whats already known.

SoT isn't really dark enough for my tastes either, way to much "love (or understanding) conquers all" and far to little spite, hatred, vengence and ignorance on the part of the good guys. That said, i just went and pulled a moron by getting NE in hardback (the only other hardback i have is Dune.)

  14. I actually buy two copies of all my books. One paperback for whatever, and one in hardcover for my 'library' I just like the hardcovers ;)

  15. I stopped reading after Faith of the Fallen. That book was so feking bad I never wanted to read anything he wrote again. I didn't need a 500 page book telling my why communism sucks and doesn't work.

Also the whole story line of "Richard and Wife are happy, they get separated and might never see eachother, they fight bad shit, they get back together" really got old after 3 books with the same plot.

Anyway, I was a real big fan, now I'm just a jaded prick. Goodkind had a good thing going, he just felt the need to fuk it up, just like Jordan.

I'd be happy to hear people suggestions, I'm always looking for a good book to read.

My favorite author would have to be David Gemmell but my favorite series is Song of Fire and Ice by Martin.

Martin fans should check out the teaser at http://www.georgerrmartin.com/chapter.html

One day he may finish that book, but I bet he dies before finishing the series.

  16. Hmmm. Suggestion for a book to start on?

  17. Ender's Game is one of my all time favorites. I didn't want to ruin my opinion of Orson Scott Card so I really haven't read anything else he wrote :p It's one of those books where you know everything else will just be down hill from there :)

  18. ORANGE

    ORANGE DragonWolf

actually Enders Shadow I thought was about ten times better or Xenocide...maybe it's a close tie but in any case they are all great the last one though I finished in two days it was that good all though at times it does get a little too lovey dubey

  19. 'Night Watch' is great. Btw, it's very British humour.

  20. ...I've never been a big fan of Goodkind or Pratchett (not sure why). Schrike has read some Gemnell and said some good things, I just haven't gotten around to reading any yet. I really, really dig Fred Saberhaugen, and Moorcock is okay (I think he plays a Jazz Sax (if memory serves), and he actually co-wrote the song "Black Blade" by Blue Oyster Cult...) but my favourite fantasy series is The Black Company by Glen Cook. (I've used character names from that series in every game I've played~!)
