hmm this is actually coming out eh?

I remember having a blast with the first one

  3. I loved the first one. Unfortunately afaik this game will be limited to 32 vs 32 in multiplayer. The good thing is each player will have a squad of 12 AI men to command bringing the total to 384 vs 384 i.e. battalion level combat. In the last game you could switch between squad members on the fly so I guess thats pretty good. Id love to have a few of you guys to play with and work together.

99% of the games that have came out since tribes / daoc I havent even bothered with, but this actualy looks like it might be pretty cool.

I never played the first one, how did it play out, and are the two games similiar in multiplayer design ? Guess ill have to start reading up on them :p

First one owned. A number of us played it together for a bit. The co-op missions were a blast.

So tell Sentrosi a little bit about the gameplay of the original. Sent's main concern would be if this is an RTS/FPS hybrid because Sentrosi can't do RTS. If this game is all about FPS (ala Tribes/Tribes2) then Sentrosi will be purchasing this game.

Yeah same here sent, I used to play alot of RTS games, but I dont think id like controlling a bunch of units at all while playing an FPS.

If you can play this game as just a soldier or pilot or whatever and not worry about any other crap ill definatly be keeping an eye on this.

  8. The game (and its predecessor) is at heart a realism FPS. One or two bullets kill you. You have to think about what your going to do. It does have alot of RTS elements but they have made it so you can micromanage or if you care to sit back and just shoot stuff 95% of the time macro manage.

They are making the AI very smart from what Ive heard. When playing the game your unit can be instructed to simply follow you. When you have say two squads under your control you can tell them to attack X location and they will figure out the rest for them self. Where to take cover, how to attack, ect ect. For the tactics buffs you can of course tell them how to do it.

Multiplayer in the original was kinda Iffy. Hard to find a game because there were no dedicated servers. They arnt making the same mistake here.

All in all the game ISN'T a straight FPS. But they havn't made it so you HAVE to be a 3 star general to do everything. I highly suggest picking up the original game for a fun couple days. Its only like 10 bucks.

Side Note: the community for this game is die hard fanatical. Thousands of Mods and addons have been made for it. If you pick up the original game and wanna know what a Shielka 4 x 23mm Mobile AA gun would do to a few dozen guys you can just download the Shielka, make a quick mission in the absolutely awesome editor and go to town on a Russian battalion.

Basically Sentrosi would like to have someone who can tell Sent what to do. "Sent, go over there and secure that bridge" type of stuff in MP.

The original was a blast I remember having hours of fun with it when we got some DW's inside. It sounds like this one is going to improve upon it quite a bit.

Sweet, yeah I was hoping it would be like the tom clancy games where it was based more around realism instead of just a standard shooter. Im having a good time with warhammer, but I miss shooting people to :p Sounds like it will be a fun game to play around with.

  12. Manitou

There was a mission where you had to ambush an enemy column. You had to meet up, coordinate the attack point and then accomplish it. We had a blast with that because the first time we scrubbed it and got fragged. We learned to do better next try. haha

  13. looks promising

  14. Sent, the best way I can describe it would be Planetside squad commanding. Set waypoints, let them do the rest. The difference is they actually do it. In MP I'm positive someone else will take a lead role.

Since ArmA was kind of the suck.. in my opinion anyways. This seems like it could be a blast.. hopefully there will be a demo.

So this comes out in the beginning of October

    http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/60524

Supposedly there will be a demo a few days after release, I will be waiting on that to buy considering the epic fail of ArmA2..

OFP started it all so *hopefully* it won't be as clunky and crappy as ARMA ended up being.

    This is looking good.
