Projectors

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Strygun, 26 Apr 2008.

  1. So, I'm looking to buy a new TV, and I'm considering just buying a projector instead. Does anyone know of any good online guides that give advice for projector-shopping?

If you go over to anandtech.com, they have a forum for home theater and such. You can probably get a wealth of info by just reading their forums.

I know nothing about projectors, except how to load film into them.

I use projectors quite frequently at work. One thing I do know is that when your bulb goes you are looking AT least $200 for a new bulb. More or less depending on the quality of the projector and the lumen's on the bulb..

I would just get a nice LCD TV if I were you, lasts longer and no consumables in it :D

Along with expensive bulbs burning out after 200 hours (though if you watch TV at the rate I do, the first bulb will last for several years), a projector isn't going to work very well unless you have a windowless room to use it in, as any amount of ambient light will wash out the image easily. Watching a bright image in a dark room isn't very good for your eyes, either.

  5. If I get a projector, I'll definitely by the bulb-replacement plan, which saves like $150/bulb. I'm just not a fan of LCD TVs.. they look too pixeled for me. I can see the pixels crystal clear on them.. especially if you're not watching something in digital or HD.

    Curtains work wonders ;)

What are you rocking ultra zoom vision or something?

The only way I see the pixels on mine is if I climb up to within an inch of it. :p SD programming is always going to look pixelated.
