  1. Which CPU can I purchase to maximize this motherboard?
What type of RAM do I need to get the best performance when matched with this new CPU?

    Giga-Byte 8KNXP

Current video card is a 9600 AIW. It’s been a good card so far. I don’t like nvidia cards, just a personal preference.

Concerning hard drives, I’d like to possibly explore the capabilities with the RAID array on this motherboard. Opinions?

What is this crossfire technology all about? SLI? On this issue, is this like the days of old when we used to run a couple of 3dfx cards together? If you can, just give me a little blurb with linking to a whole ten page article on these two issues.

I don’t really want to get involved into doing a full system upgrade at this time, I’d just like to max out the CPU and probably go with 2GB of RAM.

  2. max cpu I'd get for that is Intel P4-Northwood 3.4G (HT) 800MHz FSB. 2gig of ram may or may not help you depending on what you run at the same time on your pc.

Crossfire is ATI's SLI. It basically works like this, it takes the screen in 32x32 pixel squares and does every other to each card. Its pretty slick as far as working for most games but Nvidia's SLI works much better but requires profiles build for each game. This is because Nvidia cards are just better than ATI...that just the way it is :p.

That's like saying the peanut butter is sweeter then the jelly. It's just ain't right

  4. I used to think that but then I saw the power of the dark side. :p

  5. I'm sorry....but my 6800GT roxor's j00 all!

  6. I didn't see where it listed a PCI express port. All the new Dance Dance Revolution videocards are using the PCI Express ports. So unless one is there and I missed it (which is probably the case) I recommend that you do not get this board.

As for RAID I'm not really sure why you would want to do that for a home PC. For a server that gets a lot of hits RAID 5 increases speed and reliability. But unless you are running some really heavy applications I don't see why you'd want RAID anything on a home PC. I mean if you mirror the drive and download a virus the virus can thrash both drives at the sametime cause it went to both.

    I RAID 5 through Linux 9.0.

    man youre such a hacker....:p

  10. No... :(

I'm the good person who loves both ATI and Nvidia. But back on subject. You need PCI express slot for your feature gaming. :D

  11. not sure if you already have that mobo or not, but go with socket 939 board and an amd64. buying intel just inst a wise move right now, their technology is lacking.

nvidia is smoking ati right now. xFx 6800 GT got awesome reviews

    hope this helps

  12. my card :D

  13. Without re-telling the whole story again, let's just say that I already have this motherboard in my current setup. I wasn't looking to break the bank on an upgrade. I just wanted to see what's out there currently for this motherboard. Just once, I'd like to buy the fastest CPU for my motherboard instead of upgrading everything all at once.
