Question for Lynksys router owners :)

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by 45 semi, 17 Feb 2002.

  1. OK, here's the setup...
    I have a Lynksys 4 port cable/dsl router.
I have it set to the defaults except the password of course :)
I have the DHCP set to enabled, which assigns every PC in the network (house) a individual address
What I want to know is...
Is there any ways other than putting one of the computers IP's in the network on the DMZ to be able to host? -
say, games or Roger Wilco or whatever
If I disable DHCP, I dont know what the individual computers address's are
and you HAVE to disable DHCP for port forwarding...
What I want to know is the way to forward just specific ports on any of the computers without exposing it to the internet.
Since I have to diable DHCP, how do I specify which computers IP since it's then not listed...

I deleted all my info.... go to the RA forum and you will see Mavicators reply. He basically said the same info I just said.

    Good luck .45

You have to disable the DHCP. Assigning them an IP manually is better anyways (you always know the machine by IP then, no WINs issues)

Port forwarding, like you said, only works on static address with DHCP off. I have hosted games on mine this way with no problems.

    You can also look on

Lots of info on how to do this stuff.

  4. Its all been said, you can also do port forwarding to your system if your DHCP lifespan is high -- but its a risk you do not want to take for a dedicated server.
