If I've got an x800 vid card, and pick up a 2nd one, but they're not the same manufacturer or one is potentially a "better" or "faster" version of the card, does that effect SLi performance? Or ability to use it at all?

Basically, do I need an exact duplicate model card to run SLi? Or will any other x800 card be usable, if my existing card is in the x800 family?

  2. SLI pretty much has to be 2 Identical cards ATM, i have two 7800's in mine and short of benchmarks tests i dont really notice much difference in performance.

For the best bang for your budget Asp, look at the 6800GS series of cards. You can get some pretty good performance out of them in SLI (rated about the same as one 7800GT).

  5. Yea, must have an ATI chipset to support Crossfire. But the newer crossfire mb's are actually pretty nice, so there is a solid alternative to Nforce finnally.

You can get what is called a Mastercard. These are usually branded as Crossfire boards. In which case I beleive they will work with different models, going down to the slowest boards speed. Otherwise you must have two identical boards that support crossfire.

X1900GTO's are about to come out, they should perform pretty nice.

  6. Geez...why does it feel like my recent update is obsolete?
