Thinking this through, from what we know about markets and supply/demand that will be in the game. Using an Idris as the subject matter purely because it'll be the biggest ship in the game to be produced, and will likely take the longest.

So players wont be able to build ships, particularly big ones, at the beginning of the game, possibly at all? You may control a factory that build ships, but there wont be any way (that I've read) to artificially enhance production speeds.. i.e. you can't become a super-factory for capital ships for your corporation.
You have to order one through existing companies (Anvil, Aegis), that will be producing them all the time. Aegis for example may have 3 factory setups that produce Idris'.

Time to produce one, is dependent on resources, and other interconnected elements in the economy diagrams. (Morale, material supply/shortage, etc). Sub-Capital ships will likely take at least some time to build, primarily so there wont be a flood of them all the time. How much time is still up in the air.

Assuming a standard preset time of say 1-2 weeks to build one, there will be waiting lists to buy them. Makes sense.. If you were to lose one in combat, and insurance were to replace it, I think it stands to reason that it wouldn't just appear out of thin air, Insurance would have to "acquire" it from existing supplies..

Seems to me there could be situations, demand greater than supply, several battles resulting in say 20 sub-caps being destroyed in a week; could REALLY start to delay the purchase/replacement of ships like that.. Which kind of acts as a nice balance to them, so you know people wont be risking them in a foolhardy way.. Since, while it WILL be replaced, the question becomes, "how long until"?

Curious if insurance (LTI or otherwise) will have to get into line with people purchasing ships to replace them for customers..

Fighters I can see being more easily acquired, but bigger ships could have long replacement waits, if demand spikes, and losses out in space mount up.

I actually kinda think I like that if the economy turns out that way..

  2. You expalin it how I see it working. And I think insurance claims still have to get in line, I mean it is just your provider ordering a new chassis (and paying for it) for you.

  3. I am liking this more and more. It will hopefully cause some of the greifers who do it for kicks and giggles to pause a little.......at least just enough for you to blow em out of the sky lol

It'll also put the brakes on even large groups flying around in solo pwn-mobile Idris', because it wont take a lot for a dedicated group of bombers to focus purely on taking it out, and if the climate is wrong, it might be April before you see your replacement ship.

  5. Yea I could live with that kind of restriction. Makes the game more interesting. If the game explodes with new players after launch, which there will likely be a lot no matter, it will affect them quite a bit. That could lead to a larger Grey market. Those of us with 2-3+ ships at launch won't have to worry as much. Hopefully there will be plenty of Aurora's and Mustang's for the newbs who will be loosing their starter ships left and right not to have to wait for a replacement as that will kind of kill the game for them.

  6. It also depends on the manufacture of your ship.

For instance Drake (cutlass and Caterpillar) ships are cheaper to construct (faster)
Aegis Dynamics (Avenger/Retail) their ships are surplus military and are retrofitted for civilian sale, they likely have a very large inventory on hand.
Anvil has major military contracts and will likely be the slowest to replace ships as they have to crank them out for the UEE.

So I think replacement times will be very dependent on the manufacture as well as the ship in question.

    Just my take away.

  7. Another reason I am going to sit back and laugh :) I am also going to laugh if anyone gets permadeath from it lol

  8. well, I for one will seiousily think of doing it, but in more of a support role. I have my reasons. and if someone gets a perma death on this, they have some serious issues

  9. I might drag my Gladiator out for it, seeing as I got it for only one reason and thats for fightin.
